This is one of my all time favourite novels! This is a book designed for students from Years 5 to 7. It follows a girl named Erica who has dreams to make it out of her small, backwards town. One day a girl named Alison Ashley attends her primary school and Erica becomes incredibly jealous. This book is set in the Australian suburbs and I think that the characters are so authentic and relatable. I think this book is humorous and it is an easy read. This book is on the Premier's Reading Challenge and I would highly recommend this novel in a wide reading setting.

Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian review by Rohin

I would recommend this novel for 11-13 year old's. Percy Jackson and his fellow Greek demigods (half human and half god) stands by untold evil, his previous tutor Luke Castellan has transformed into the titan leader Kronos and leads and army to Olympus (modern day empire state building) and crush the Greek God's thrones as they are bonded to the power of the Greek gods. 'The hero's soul, cursed blade shall reap' pg. 48. I would recommend this book for others as it is the end of great adventure series and begins another it is my favorite book and I love reading it. Without a doubt one of Rick Riordan's greatest book ever.

Alex Rider is a great series to read and is an action packed fiction book about a British boy who's life is changed when his uncle dies and he finds out the shocking truth how. the book does have humorous parts as well as series moments. It is a series of 13 and each book unlocks Alex Riders past and each one has giant shocks for Alex and for us. I recommend this book to people who like reading books and people who like fiction action but believable and it is amazing and Mrs. Hillier likes it too.

Johnathan Thurston: The Autobiography

I would recommend this book for 12+ because there is some colourful language but you can pick up a kids version, called 'JT: The Making Of A Total Legend'. The book is an autobiography about Johnathan Thurston's life, the ups, the downs, the beginnings and when he retired. It was written by James Phelps and told by Johnathan Thurston. Rugby league players must definetly read this book because it's written by one of the greatest of all time and shows how much he perservered just to play in the NRL and might inspire you to really try hard to play professional sport. This is DEFINETLY my favourtie autobiography of an athlete.

This is a series that I have recently started reading and instantly loved. I would recommend this book and series to any 12-14 year-old. It is about a boy from a planet not unlike earth called Lorien. When his country goes in to war with another alien planet called Mogadore, nine children are forced to leave the planet, along with their guardians, and migrate to earth. The boy must try to fit in and avoid being hunted down by the Mogadarians that destroyed his planet and want to finish off their job. This is a great book with lots of action and humour.
(Warning: contains violence and mild colourful language)

Keeper of the Lost Cities (Series)

This is easily my all time favourite series!!
I would highly recommend the KOTLC series to people aged between 11 - 14 as it includes playful and sometimes gory scenes (but not too scary). It showcases a girl put into an unknown situation (no spoilers hear) to which she practically has to switch worlds and change her way of living. After this an evil group show up along the series and throughout the rest of the present and future books she is trying to stop them. I would recommend this book to anyone willing to listen as its fantasy scenery combined with intertextuality and realistic themes make it the perfect book for almost anyone. Just note it is not on the premiers reading challenge unless you add it as one of your optionals.

The hunger games is a great book I recommend it for 10 - 15 year olds. It is about a girl who is forced to fight for her district against other people from other districts the games are due to over population. despite all the odds she wins the games and is made royalty in her district. The book is very good and I recommended it. This book is the first of a 3 book series. I also recommend the other books in the series.

I would recommend this novel too 11-14 year old's who are girls. The book Blended is about a girl who moves to a new house because her grandparents need help and she has to move schools and she finds it hard because she doesn't really know anyone. She also has a hard time at home because her parents are divorced and she has to continue to move houses and she has no freedom. I recommend this book too people because I think that it is nice to read.

Harry Potter series

I would recommend this series to 12-14 year olds. This series is about a boy who is living with some of his extended family members because his parents died because of an evil villain. His extended family treat him poorly. He finds out one day that he is able to do magic, and he goes to a school where he learns magic with other people who can do magic. I would recommend this series because it is an excellent fantasy and adventure series. The books in this series are on the Premier's Reading Challenge, but you can only add 3 books from a series.

NOTE: The last book in the series has some dark themes, so some people may not want to read it until they are a bit older.

The One and Only Ivan

The One and Only Ivan is a short novel (2-3 wide reading lessons) and is excellent for years 5-7. This book is about animal rights and compassion.

A gorilla named Ivan has lived in a circus in a shopping mall all his life. Ivan and his friends face captivity and are forced to perform circus acts to an audience without any respect for animals. Ivan and his friends dream of a better life in the wild, and might succeed in their escape with the help of The janitor's daughter, Julia.

The Divergent series by Veronica Roth

This book trilogy is best for ages 13 and above, pretty much for any person mature enough for sometimes hard topics.

Divergent is about a city where everyone fits into five groups - or factions - and where you belong to the faction you choose for your life. Everybody takes a test for which faction they belong in, but when Beatrice takes the test her results came back undecided - she did not belong to any one faction. She is Divergent - a secret she must hide if she wants to survive, and she must choose where she feels she belongs most and find out how to fit in. Along the way she finds many secrets that flipped her life even more than it already has.

Divergent is a brilliantly written novel series and doesn't have many limits to the people who can read it, as long as you can write a novel. The novel reflects some aspects of the world today and what it might become in the future.

the series of CHERUB is an amazing series of a boy who is constantly getting in trouble but when his mum dies and he gets in trouble with the police he wakes up into an organization... literally. this book does have colorful language and is not recommended for young readers but it is hilarious and I love the series and recommend it to people in yr 6 and above

Grace On The Court

This is literally my favourite book. I would absolutely recommend it for anyone the ages 10 - 13. It is about the 3B's: boys, boy bands and ball sports. The story is about 3 best friends who all play netball and have been besties for like ever. They won the grand final and now are trying to get in the same team again in high school. Grace’s greatest rival on the court, Amber Burns, made the same netball team as her. Her twin brother, Gus, is devastated he didn’t make the AFL A team for the school and Grace and her friend need to get the tickets for the VIP Friday @ 5 concert. All of that while Sebastian King in the new hot guy in school. Will they end up surviving high school and will Grace make it into the Adelaide State Team? Read to find out. 😁

I would recommend this book to 12-15 year olds. Its a really good book and it is about a girl, Maisie, who loves running and she gets badly burnt in a fire. Its about how she lives with her scars and she navigates around her problems. She has a boyfriend, a best friend and a Halloween party to deal with. I'm pretty sure it is in the Premiers reading challenge. It's my favourite book and I love it so much.

Book Recommendation - The Hobbit - Isaac

I would recommend this book to anyone older than 10. It is set at a very old time in middle earth, where dwarves, wizards and goblins roam the earth. A hobbit (a small beardless kind) called Bilbo is living his life in his hobbit hole at baggend where nothing exciting happens there; it is isolated to the outside world where rarely hear of outside creatures besides in legends or rumours.
Then a company of dwarves and Gandalf the wizard arrive at his hole. They have chosen him to come on an adventure to steal great treasure guarded by a dragon called Smaug in a destroyed and old palace built into a mountain. He is the main thief to steal the treasures.
In this Journey he faces many things such as great battles, treacherous forests and shapeshifting, mutant, mythical creatures, making a great book that leads to 'The Lord of the Rings'. Written in the 1930s, it is interesting to read how they wrote literature, but it doesn't sound too posh or formal, but it is surprisingly very enjoyable and engaging.
It is much better than it sounds and the language and storyline is well told and clearly well thought out.
Overall, it is a great book to read for anyone who is old enough to understand the ideas. It will engage you and is a timeless and classic adventure for anyone willing to read something new.

Tattooist of Auschwitz

I would recommend this novel to for 12-15 year old's of both genders. This book is about a man called Lale who falls in love with a lady called Gita at the concentration camp called Auschwitz. After getting an advantage in the death camps as the tattooist, Lale enters a journey full of hate, friendships and survival, all for the freedom to love. Warning that there are some "colourful" language use in the book and some scenes that may be disturbing to sensitive readers. There are two books following this book called "Cilka's story" and "Three Sisters." If you read this book, it is a ticket back to the life of 1940s and shows what horrors people can cause.

I would recommend this book to anyone that is nearing the end on primary school. This book has some complex words, not many ,but teaches some important life lessons and sets some examples for going into High school.
This book is great for all people and is a fun read.

In wonder there is a boy that is very different, and was home schooled all the way to year five, the start of middle school. He learns about life and all the harsh lessons that come with it.

This novel is a great novel and i highly recommend this book to all readers in search for a fun, interesting read, that has a bit of drama and mystery.

Boy in Striped Pajamas

I love this book, it has its audience going up and down along the journey with a boy named Bruno. I really recommend this book, it is one of my ALL TIME favourites. It gives its readers a mix of emotions and feelings throughout the book. I would certainly recommend this for ages 11-14. There is a boy called Bruno who lives in Berlin and his father, a soldier in the Nazis, gets promoted. Next, they move to Auschwitz because of the promotion whilst Bruno leaves all his friends behind, but he has to make new friends. It turns out that Auschwitz is where the Jewish concentration camps are placed, soon Bruno makes friends with a boy his age across the other side of the fence (concentration camp side) but how will the boy on the other side affect Bruno? READ TO FIND OUT! I recommend this to others because this book is really interesting and John Boyne (the author) gives a different side of the Nazis, I find it really enjoyable to find a novel that is based on nonfiction things.

Ghosts

I really enjoyed reading this book and it is also a very easy read. I recommend this book for ages 8-13 but anyone can read it for fun. The book starts in a busy city but a family is forced to move to another city more desolate and alone because the youngest sister in the family has a medical condition which makes it hard for her to breathe in a place with lots of air pollution. Her older sister hates the new place and all of her friends are gone. She goes to explore the new area with her little sister but bumps into another teenager. He believes ghosts are real in the city and asks if they want to go to the ghost show for $20. Being an older sister herself she rejects him and doesn't believe a word he has said. Soon after she realises that the boy is her neighbour as well as in her classes in school. The graphic novel gets more and more exciting as you read more of the book. I highly recommend the book and it is one of my favourite graphic novels.

I love this series and think it's a great mystery read. I would recommend this series to 11-13 years. It's a great series which follows the tail of two girls, Daisy Wells and Hazel Wong. These two girls have a society, in which they investigate mysteries from their boarding school. One day, they find a true mystery worth investigating. This is one of my favourite series and is worth reading.

Little Women

Little Women by Louisa May Alcott was written in 1868. I would recommend this book for Year 7 - 9, as it has high vocabulary. This book is also listed onto the Premier's Reading Challenge. The theme of this book is family. It teaches us how to overcome family problems. The family of a an enduring mother, a father who has left to go for war, and 4 sisters face many problems. I recommend this book to mostly girls because it shows the ups and downs of growing up as a girl. However, Louisa May Alcott also wrote a book called Little Men. This is so far my favourite book.

I would recommend this novel to age group of 10-12 year olds. Hatchet is a fascinating book to read. It gives you good examples of surviving in the wilderness and the difficulties of being stranded there too. The boy is on a plane to his relatives house and it doesn't go well. The pilots pass out and never and the plane begins to fall, smoking burning through the turbines and eventually crashing. The boy was lucky to get out. He ends up having a minor concussion and sets out onto an adventure. There is ups and down but the wilderness can get really harsh.

I like this book because there is so much stuff that he could give up on but he doesn't. He pushes through and keeps on going. This book may not be humorous but it is action packed and really interesting. Without a doubt this is one of the best wilderness books for kids in the age group above. Try look for this book during wide reading, you won't regret it.

I would recommend this novel for grades 7-8. This is in my opinion one of my all time favourite novels. This novel is for those who are into the historical and adventurous type. This novel is a semi-easy read. (This is fictional)

This novel is about a Jewish, 10 year old boy named Felix who lives in an orphanage in Poland (1942) who is on the quest to find his book - seller parents who used to sell books at a store back in their old town. At the orphanage, he sees Nazi's burning up books so decides to escape the orphanage and hide his parent's book at their shop before the Nazis burns their books too.

Caution! -This book does contain some violence and mature themes.

There is a whole series so I do recommend reading them all.

Two wolves is a great novel written by Tristan Bancks. I recommend this book to any gender. This book would be suitable between the age of 11-14 years of age. Two wolves is about A boy who has always wanted to be a detective. The police show up to his house one afternoon. Minuets after they left his parents came home. Ben (the main character) and his little sister named Olive. They are then bundled into the car and told they are going on a holiday... They really weren't. It didn't take long before ben realised that his parents were in trouble. Ben then gathers evidence and tries to uncover what they have done...I would recommend this book to everyone because it is very interesting and it always has tensions and you always want to know what will happen next. This book Is great to read and I would recommend trying it out!

These books are a story of harry's journey through life as a wizard at Hogwarts and the challenges he overcomes and how he was the boy who lived. He has to fight Lord Voldemort. I would recommend this novel as it is entertaining, engaging and it can teach you alot.

The Kingdom of Back

The Kingdom of Back, is so far one of my favourite novels. I would recommend this for students, regardless of gender, from grade 5 to grade 7. It describes the life of two siblings a sister and her little brother. They have a strong passion for music, particularly the clavier. The siblings would be forced to practice hours on end, eventually becoming famous for their talent and incredible music. Since the older sister is a girl she was restricted from composing, by her father, while her little brother was allowed to compose as well as play. The young girl noticed her little brother's work gradually overcoming hers, making the difficult decision to secretly compose, (not like she's able to share it publicly). Despite their talents, the two siblings loved and cared for each other, her younger brother even agreed to help her hide the compositions. However, the more the world biased against her, the more hatred built inside, until one day she faces the difficult decision on whether she would like to permanently defeat her brother, in this career. Would she choose herself over her loving brother? What would be the consequences of her actions? Are all the caring memories going to be wiped away within a second? When reading this novel the author creates a bubble of curiosity within you, the urge to learn more.

This book is one my all time favourite horror-graphic-poetry novels of all time. I would recommend the book for 12 to 13 years as it may scare younger children or audiences. This book follows the famous short stories of Edgar Allan Poe's most famous poems and them in a horror graphic novel style. The book has 5 short stores including famous one "The Raven" and "The Fall of Usher" etc. I would highly recommend this book as for some people even like me i find it boring to read poems and for children with pictures it is proven we earn faster even when were children we used picture books. Not only is it interesting with pictures the illustrations and plot lines will have you on the edge of your seat as the book is very gripping and suspenseful. With the abundance of plot twists and insane moments the Raven and other Tales will be a great read for anyone.

Looking For Alaska by John Green

Looking For Alaska by John Green is an insight of boarding school culture, and what occurs during the daily lives of a mischievous (but surprisingly intelligent) group of friends at Culver Creek Academy.

This realistic-fiction novel is great for audiences who enjoy reading a variety of genres, as the novel has a little bit of romance, mystery and pranks all throughout the American Highschool theme.

I loved reading this book during the holidays, and there is a full TV series of this book on Stan! Our library has 2 copies and I'm estimating it would take around 3 wide reading sessions (It is a reasonably short book).

The book is best for anyone above 11 years old, and for people who love war books anything similar.

Yanek Guener is a Jewish kid in Poland, 1930s. When the Nazis invaded, he was placed into a ghetto - his family, over a year, was split apart, taken away to die or work to death until he was the last left. in the end, without a family or any friends, he was taken to the first concentration camp.

camp after camp, over 7 years, he was transported between one camp to another, surviving years of malnutrition, disease, overworking, and brutal treatment across 10 seperate concentration camps, with methods of transport for the people who were 'less than animals' designed to kill 9 million people.

Jack Gruener has moved to America, with a good family and wife, and lives a normal life, despite the words "B-3087" tattooed into his skin.

The Siren

This book I recommend for 10 to 15 year old's. I think it is a great book. It is romance so if you do not like that you might not enjoy it. It is also fantasy. Here is my brief summery.

Kalen's ship goes down thanks to sirens and while drowning she begs to live in her head so she gets taken to be a siren by choice because the options were wither be a siren for 100 years and forget after of die instantly. She agrees. Being a siren, her voice is like poison to humans which is an obstacle she faces. She still lives on land and she meets a boy who she starts to fall love with by writing down what she says on paper, texting or a whiteboard of course. She hates being a siren because that means killing thousands of people on boats.

The way she navigates the obstacles and still is able to find love is amazing and I highly recommend the book or if you have nothing to read, try it! It is available in the library and I'm not sure if its in the premiers reading challenge but either way it is highly recommended. Probably my favourite book.

They both die in the end

"They both die at the end" is a book written by Adam Silvera recommended for 12-15 year olds. The title starts us off with a depressing yet intriguing title which keep the reader and audience interested, the novel reflects a dystopian new reality the characters face.

The story starts off in media res with Mateo one of the protagonists just receiving the notification that he going today, he doesn't know how or exactly when. Similarly Rufus, has also gotten the alert. The two strangers meet up an app called the Last friend and team up together for one last fun time and they say goodbye to loved ones, it dawns on them there is still things in the past they must deal with.

Overall, "they both die at the end" is an incredible story which i throughly enjoyed and i think anyone could enjoy as it has an interesting plot line, diverse characters and many more.
