Disruption has always a negative connotation in people's perspective, viewing disruption as something bad. We often view disruption as bad in our lives, be it via internet, technology or even the current pandemic. But Y.LEAD has changed my perception of disruption. Disruption can also be a good and positive thing. It allows us to grow, allows us to learn, allows us to adapt. Learning how to make the best out of everything by making do with what we can control, learning how to make things better and learning how to be flexible and acceptive.

Y.LEAD was filled with many unexpected changes and ups and downs, and this has made me a more flexible yet prepared leader. Many times, we couldn't control many things due to unexpected circumstances. This has taught me that while it is very important to be prepared and plan ahead so that we are able to deal with change and disruption, it is equally important that we are able to be flexible and adapt our plans according to the situation at hand so that in the end, everything can go smoothly. I have also understood that in such uncertain times, it is inevitable that accidents happen, or that plans get changed, sometimes even without warning/with minimal warning. Hence, this experience has also made me a more patient and understanding person.

I MEAN IT IS YLEAD! A programme that all RVIANs went through, it has symbolic meaning, and I will say it is definitely one of the best part of my RV life. It gives us opportunity to bond with others, forcing you to interact in a entirely new environment, at the same times getting deeper insights about global and current affairs which is extremely valuable for teenagers like us. THIS programme really help participants to develop as future change makers and I hope we can continue this programme FOREVER

Knowing how to choose between letting go of something or whether to stand firm to it till the end by finding ways to work around it. When met with the unforeseen incident, we were conflicted to whether we should continue Y.Lead or whether to postpone or even cancel for this year. It was important to take note of unintended outcome and the preparedness of different stakeholders. Despite really wanting to move on with Y.Lead, I think we made an informed and mature decision to postponed. There was a period of time when our WIX site was AT RISK because of the safety concern, copy rights issues and data issues. However, most of the items have already been completed in the site itself and furthermore with the new exploration of Gathertown , many other programmes have moved over there. Hence, we were really conflicted whether to start all over or have a way to prove that safety wasn't the issue and wix site can provide an even more wholesome and unique experience. Hence, with the conviction and ultimate purpose in mind that, we are bringing participants on a trip and seemingly out of gathertown, we tried to convince and prove different ways of utilising password, using pre sign in to rvhs emails and ultimately have manage to stand firm on my stand. Before this event, I am actually one who will take more job on myself so that we can make everyone's job easier, but by the end of this journey, I am better able to stand for what I really wanted and have theskills to prove and persuade others

Y.LEAD has better prepared me by teaching me that even in the most unpredictable times, we must learn to adapt and overcome any challenges thrown at us. For instance, when the announcement to shift the camp online came as a result of the pandemic, people’s responses varied: some were worried about how we were going to do so, and others were angry about their efforts being wasted. However, in spite of that, we all managed to come together to plan Y.LEAD to be as interactive and meaningful as possible, such that the participants would still be able to have insightful takeaways. Through this, we learnt to adapt and overcome everything thrown at us, thus successfully creating the YLEAD experience we (and participants) have today.

I think one of my most unexpected takeaways from Y.LEAD this year is the importance of community even in event planning. Usually in event planning this came naturally with all the physical meetings and dry runs but for this Y.LEAD we had to intentionally try and build relationships online. This was slightly tough for Logistics as we had minimal things to do with Y.LEAD going digital. But as Y.LEAD comes to a close, i think that what really motivated me to push through the final bit of Y.LEAD had to be the community that was built between comms and just having fun with them.

Disruption is something that everyone tries their best to avoid, to make our Y.LEAD 2021 journey as smooth as possible. However, through Y.LEAD, leading in disruption actually means to lead our fellow friends and juniors in facing disruption directly, embracing this disruption, and working out new solutions together on how to overcome this disruption. Through this, new perspectives are discovered, personalities are shaped, and new future leaders are cultivated and developed. After all, our lives are definitely not always smooth sailing, however much we prepare to prevent a disruption, sometimes embracing disruptions make our lives easier and more enriching instead. My perception has therefore changed to taking things easily, and adapting quickly to anything ahead.

These moments made me realise that the journey of leadership is not always going to be smooth-sailing, and when we embrace the challenges/disruptions we face rather than let them overwhelm us, we are able to learn and do things better than we could have imagined. Disruption ensures that we truly desire what we want to achieve.
