Netiquette is short for "Internet netiquette". Netiquette can be defined as the correct way to communicate across the Internet. It is a code of good behavior across the Internet. One example of good Netiquette is thanking others who help you online. An example could be if your computer was not working and you contacted Apple support online. If the member from apple support helped you with your problem, it would necessary to say thank you. Another example of good netiquette is showing good sportsmanship when playing online games, whether you win or lose. If you are playing solitaire online with another person, and you lose the game, it would be good netiquette to say "good game, maybe I'll win next time!" In addition never spamming someone by sending large amounts of unsolicited emails shows good netiquette. Everyone hates opening up their email and finding a spam email that says "The Best weight loss plan ever! Click here for your free trial!" Never send out mass emails that are unsolicited Finally, do not swear or use provocative language online. Saying any swear words online, shows that you are unprofessional. Always remember to use good netiquette online!

References:
1.) ://techterms.com/definition/netiquette

2.)
https://www.cybersmile.org/advice-help/category/examples-of-good-netiquett

News literacy is differentiating between real news and fake news. It is deciding whether one source is reliable and if another is not. Sometimes there are news reports that you can not believe and have to stray away from. For example, there may be a news story about a cheating allegation between two celebrities. There is never proof until someone speaks out about it. If it is denied, you know that the news story was fake from the start, and they were only looking for publicity. In addition, it is important to make sure that journalists are clearly informing the reader of their opinions and factual information. For instance, they may have their own political stance, but they have a difficult time being factual when there opinion is in the way. Some journalists may not do this and this is why there are many questions that are left to be answered by readers. All in all, it is the skills that people use to make decisions on whether something is reliable or not that is essential.

https://www.schooljournalism.org/news-literacy-overview/

https://www.centerfornewsliteracy.org/what-is-news-literacy/

It is important to know news literacy as a teacher because I have to make sure the information I am showing my students is credible and reliable. Understanding how to tell if a website, or article is reliable and accurate can be hard sometimes. Using sites that end is .gov, .net tend to be more reliable then websites that end in .org or .com.
It is important to teach news literacy skills to my students because they need to know everything they read online is not always the truth. Helping students recognize the difference between news and opinions is a necessary skill. The ability to access credible information is perhaps the most important skill in modern society. Teaching the new generations of students the importance of critically analyzing information, will benefit not only them, but society.

Good Netiquette, and News literacy go hand in hand. Understanding what good netiquette is, may help you identify if a website is reliable or not.
For example, if you go onto a website and see that the author has used swear words you will know that that is not proper netiquette. If a author is using swear words consistently in their article, you will start to think that this website may not be that reliable. If you decide to be a journalist one day, it will be in your best interest to remember to use good netiquette. Showing that you are professional online, will help make your articles a more credible source. Having people respect your work, will help bring more and more people to read your articles.

If tomorrow was my first day as a teacher I would not have had netiquette or news literacy down as a lesson plan. This activity has shined a light on the importance of teaching young children the pros and cons of using the Internet. Children are getting their hands on technology younger and younger. I have seen three year olds who are able to navigate through an iPad. Internet access for young students is getting easier and easier. Therefore, we need to teach students how to behave properly online, and the risks of using the Internet. By doing this, we can ensure that students have the proper tools to surf the internet safely.

As a future teacher, It is important that we teach students the tools they need to use the internet appropriately. First, I would start off class by asking my students how often they used the Internet. I would then ask if their parents had any rules for them when surfing the web. Next, I'd have my students brainstorm and write down what they think Netiquette means. Then I would show my class the video to right. After watching the video, I would have my students get into groups of 2-3 people and discuss what they learned by watching. After 2-3 minutes of talking, I would have one person from each group come up to the SmartBoard and write one idea they learned from the video. At the end of the lesson, hopefully my students would have created a big list. I would print this list that my students created and have them staple it in their "Go Home" folders. Lastly, there homework that night would be to go home and talk about what good netiquette is with their parents are. I would also post the list my students created on the classroom website so that the students' guardians would be able to see what we did that day. This lesson plan would allow students to understand what Netiquette is, and would allow them to talk to their parents about the rules at home of using the Internet.

After learning about netiquette and news literacy, I think that bringing this knowledge into the classroom is important and necessary. Not only should students know about this, but teachers should too. Prior to doing this research, I was not aware that students were being taught these topics in the classroom. I don't remember a lesson devoted to news literacy and netiquette. Therefore, I think that it's important that it's incorporated in more classrooms. This has confirmed for me my belief that there should be more kindness on the internet while being cautious of what is out there because it's important to not believe everything you read.

News literacy is important to know as a teacher because in the process of bringing in new material in the classroom, you have to make sure that they are reliable and factual. It's important as a teacher to be careful where these sources come from and who is writing them because not everything will be correct if the wrong source is chosen. Students will need to understand news literacy because when they are researching for a project they will need to know the skills that are required to be aware of credible sources online. This will be handy for them now and in the future when they are in college. They will therefore have factual knowledge and be more aware of the world around them.

To start off my lesson, I will ask my students if they have ever read a news story that sounded outrageous or unbelievable. Students will share their experiences with this, and then in groups of 2 they will write down their own made-up news stories that the class will judge to be accurate or false. I will give each student a topic, and they will have to write the story and provide the news source. After sharing their news reports with the class, I will judge each one and tell them whether their news source is reliable. Also, I will make sure that the type of story they wrote sounded accurate and differentiated between fact and opinion. After this exercise, I will show them the difference between a fake news report and an honest one. This will therefore give them the skills to be careful when they are researching a certain topic or reading the news.

Being professional over the Internet is essential. Having good netiquette can make or break you getting a job in the future. If there is one other candidate running against you, and you were the more polite and mannered candidate you may end up with the job.
It is vital to teach students netiquette skills at a young age. Online communication has become very common in the classrooms. Students need to learn respect, and that they should treat everyone online like they do in person. Good manners convey a sense of respect for the sensibilities of other people. Showing students how to be professional online, will benefit them in the long run.

The internet is also a big part of our lives and it's important that we treat people with respect online as well.
