         <description><![CDATA[<div>Born September 6, 1860 in Cedarville, Illinois - Died May 28, 1936 in Chicago, Illinois.<br><br>She grew up in a wealthy family and was the youngest of eight children.<br><br>Her mother (Sarah Addams) died when she was giving birth to her ninth child<br><br>Jane was raised by her older siblings and her father (John Addams) who was one of the founding members of the Republican Party and he served as an Illinois State Senator.<br><br>She was only four years old when she had discovered she had Pott's Disease (tuberculosis of the spine) which caused life long health problems. <br><br>She grew up wanting to do something great with her life and always had a passion to help those less fortunate.<br><br>Jane wanted to become a doctor and attended the Medical College of Philadelphia, but dropped out because of health conditions.<br><br>Graduated from Rockford University (founded as a private female seminary) in Rockford, Illinois in 1881.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>1889- Co-founder of the Hull House. America's most famous Settlement House in Chicago, Illinois.<br><br>1898- Joined the Anti-Impearlist League.<br><br>1899- Helped established the first juvenile court house.<br><br>1907- Wrote an essay called  "Utilization of Women in City Government"  (linked the government to the role of women in aspects such as sanitation and teaching and taking care of children).<br><br>1910- First woman to receive an honorary Master's of Art from Yale.<br><br>1915- Became involved in the Women's Peace Party and elected National Chairman. She was chosen by European peace Activist as head of commissioner and to work along side International Congress of Women to end the war.<br><br>1920- Co-founder of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).<br> <br>1931- Became the first women to win a Nobel Peace Prize for her peace activities and humanitarian services.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Jane Addam is considered to be one of the founders of social work in America. <br><br>She helped America address issues that pertained to mothers and the care of their children, public health, protecting rights of new immigrants, child labor, legislation rights for women, and welfare.<br><br>She wore many hats. She was an American settlement activist, reformer, political activist, social worker, sociologist, public administrator, and author/lecturer.<br><br></div><div>She was an activist for world peace and women's suffrage.<br><br>She was a role model for middle-class women that volunteered in the communities.</div><div><br>She leaves a legacy and her ideologies continue to have an impact on the social, political and economical reform in America.<br><br>The Jane Addams' College of Social Work is located in Chicago, Illinois. She is continuing her legacy by inspiring future social workers.</div>]]></description>
