These flowers are showy and emerge in clusters on 2 long, reddish, branched panicles. They flower throughout late winter to early spring.

Reproduction:
Most mango varieties produce 25% male flowers and the remaining 75% are hermaphroditic. Depending on the region, plants can flower anywhere from December to March. Once pollinated, a fruit can begin to develop on the plant. Mangos produce drupe-like fruit, meaning a single seed is encased in a leathery coating.

Special response:
When introduced with KNO3 the mango tree in response produces more panicles. However, when introduced to methanol the tree would produce fewer and smaller panicles

Organisms that may affect them positively or negatively: Scales followed by sooty mold and Mediterranean fruit fly are pests of this tree. Sooty molds proliferate on mango foliage, subsisting on the honeydew created by sucking pests. It reduces the photosynthetic area of the tree. The Mediterranean fruit fly leaves larva on the mango fruit.

Botanical Use(medicinal, wild, industrial, ornament):
The Mangifera indica are used as a traditional source of medicine and pharmaceutical use. The fruit is used in spices, culinary herbs, for honey, and as the base of various beverages. The tree is utilized in agroforestry, for shade and shelter, and for soil improvement.

Suggestions on how to grow them and how to take care of them:
Mango trees grow best in full sun on fertile, well-drained soils and should have ample moisture. Leaf, flower, twig and fruit litter is a constant nuisance for some, and branches are subject to breakage during severe windstorms. It seems like something is always falling from a mango tree to litter the lawn. Place it in a bed with other plants to hide the litter.

They are not showy, fragrant, and emerge in clusters on terminal panicles. They start to flower throughout late winter to early spring.

Reproduction:
Avocado is a subtropical fruit tree in which the female function precedes th male function. As a consequence, each bisexual flower opens twice: first functionally as female, then the flower closes and reopens the next day functionally as male. In avocado, more that 99% of the flowers produced at anthesis are not able to set fruits due to not receiving pollen at the time of closing in the female stage. High pollen adhesion also occurs during the male stage, and, although the stigma maintains the capacity to support pollen germination, no fertilization occurs in flowers pollinated during the male stage.

Special response:
A study was conducted to examine how soil texture affects calcium (Ca) absorption and partitioning in avocado trees. Trees were planted in one of four soil types: clay, clay loam, sandy loam, or sand. Dry weights of shoots and roots were significantly higher in the sandy loam and sand soils than in clay soil. Trees in the clay soil had higher wood dry weight than trees in sandy loam or sand soils. The Ca contents in the roots, shoots, and whole tree were significantly lower in the clay soil than in the sandy loam, or sand soils. The results indicated that Ca absorption and partitioning in young avocado trees varies with soil texture, probably associated with soil effects on root growth.

Organisms that may affect them positively or negatively: Mites and scale infestations can become quite serious. Mites can be commonly tolerated, however, they cause premature leaf drop, which can contribute to sunburn of fruit and during the next growing season reduced fruit yield. Scale infestations cause premature leaf drop and discolored blemishes on fruit, leaves or twigs.

Botanical Use(medicinal, wild, industrial, ornament):
These trees are used as a traditional source of medicine and pharmaceutical use. They are utilized to feed both animals and humans and the fruit is integrated into essential oils, while the bark is used as fuelwood or to create wooden fences. These trees also help the control of erosion, dune stabilization, and soil improvement.

Suggestions on how to grow them and how to take care of them:
Avocado trees grow quickly in either full sun or light shade on any well-drained soil. Trees should be watered regularly until established and later during droughts. Avocado trees respond well to a thick leaf mulch and periodic fertilization. Lawn grasses should be kept away from the trunk. The brittle wood of Avocado trees is subject to storm damage when trees grow taller than 50 feet in the open.
