Introduction

A single note in my own words can be defined as a single note that is repeated in an artist song. A single note that is emphasized within a song holds such symbolism and meaning to it. It engages the listener and narrows the listening to one note.
As Ratliff explains in chapter 6 that playing a single note repeatedly expands the artist creativity and level of perception as well as the listener too. This kind of engagement prepares the listener for what comes next, I would say. I would agree with Ratliff's argument regarding this music element. As he explains the “Church Bells" (page 75), tells what the listeners can hear and the single notes they can also hear. He goes on to make a statement explaining that all other noises "recedes into silence." Basically, he is saying that all other noises allow the listener to become oblivious to them in a sense.

This song, outside of Ratliff's playlist exemplifies this musical concept by the deep drum emphasis (single note) that sets the tone for the song. It gives the song a deep and anticipated feeling the listener can comprehend. This is consistent throughout this song.
