The Space Race was an event that took place in the 1950's through the 1970's. It was an actual "race" between the United States and the Soviets. It first began when the US announcement that it would be launching an artificial satellites. The Soviets responded four days after, announcing that they would be doing the same thing. The Soviets beat the US into space with the launch of Sputnik One and later the first human in space, Yuri Gagarin in 1961. But the US beat the Soviets to the Moon with the landing of Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins.

The Space Race was an Open Conflict. This is because Open Conflict states that it is a conflict that directly involves one or more of the major powers in the Cold War. This means that it is an Open Conflict because the Space Race was between two major powers of the Cold War, The United States and the Soviet Union (USSR).

The Space Race was an event that affected both the US and USSR in their technology, military powers, economic, and political systems. The Space Race effected both of the nation's technology and military powers by one, learning about space and inventing new technology to do this (technology) and two, launching the satellites and everything that was launched affected the military powers by giving new opportunities to launch or spy on either nation. This affected the economic systems because both countries were spending A LOT of money on both sides of their technology.

While I was researching, I found a couple new words and what they meant: Sputnik 1 (the first satellite in space and means "Traveler in Russian), National Reconnaissance Office (Which was one of three, CIA, U.S Air Force and National Reconnaissance Office, that helped NASA get to space. Kept classified until the 1990's), Luna 2 (first Soviet probe to land on the moon) and Apollo 8 (first manned mission to successfully land on the moon. Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins were the first to land on the moon. Armstrong the first to walk on the moon). As you can see, these weren't the only vocab their is, but these ones are important.
