Chief Joseph led the Nez Perce people and they refused to moved to a smaller reservation in Idaho. traders refused to provide food on credit, the Dakota protested by launching a rebellion that killed hundreds of settlers.A military tribunal sentenced more than 300 Dakota to death

Lakota Sioux reservation defied government orders by continuing to perform the ghost dance; which is a celebration for the hoped-for day that the settlers would disappear and the Native Americans would reunite with their dead ancestors. The federal authority had banned the dance in fear that it would cause a violent outbreak. when police were sent to arrest the chief, sitting bull, gunfire began and Sitting Bull was killed. -In November Chief Black Kettle came to negotiate a peace treaty
-Commander Anthony told them to camp out at Sand Creek but Colonel Chivington ambushed them.
-Some witnesses say that the Natives were there for peace, others say it was a brutal two day battle
-The death tole for American soldiers was 14, for the natives in ranged form 60-600

- The Dakota Territory was home to another group of the 
Sioux, they are nomads who have won huntig ground over other native americans. 
-  Thier chiefs were Red Cloud, Crazy Horse, and Sitting Bull. In December of 1866 the U.S Army was building forts along the Bozeman Trail, otherwise known as the path to the Montana gold mines.
- Crazy Horse tricked Captain William Fetterman and around 80 of his soilders to go out and purse what was thought to be a small raiding party, however warriors were wating for them and wiped out there whole squad thus making the start of, "Red Cloud´s War.
