I define Metacognition with an ability to be aware of how each plans, monitors, and evaluates their learning according to the strategies that work for them. For me this ability is extremely important in my context because it promotes the development of more autonomous, free and empowered learners about their own learning process. Developing this competence from an early age has an effective impact on personal, social, academic success.

I learn best when calm and at peace, when I am comfortable and the environment that surrounds me is safe, clean and has light (especially natural light). I learn best when I'm motivated, I like to learn / study with music, and the subject is of interest to me. I learn best when I learn with whom I like and / or admire.
I do not remember specifically the hardest day at school, but it was related to fear, not having taken a good note of not having done homework, of feeling incapable.
The most exciting moment was when I changed schools in the 9th grade and I started to have good grades, and I felt that I had skills, so many that I did not know.
Nowadays, I turn to strategies that motivate me to learn. I'm pretty visual, I like colors, scenery paper, post it, and I do not like any tables, nor excel document. I learn best when I feel inspired and have a purpose. I learn best when I am surprised.

I would like to think that Metacognition is the DIY (do it yourself) of the thinking process. Plan-Do-Review-Make Adaptations. It is an essential part of the context of my job for two reasons; 1) I am the first foreign employee with Teach for Vietnam so every experience is brand new. There is no guide book to my particular experience so understanding a new language and culture requires a lot of explanation and deeper thinking about purpose. 2) I am also new to the Teach For All network and although I have been involved in similar teaching practices, I must draw and reflect on past experiences and place them in the context of my new environment.

I learn best when I am doing. Experiential learning is my practice. By connecting practical experience to theory, I gain a deeper appreciation of the learning outcomes. The most difficult moment in school for me was connecting classroom lessons with the outside experiences. Subjects seemed compartmentalized and had no practical application to what was happening to me. The most exciting moment was outside the classroom on school teams, being with friends. I think if I could have made a better connection to school work and relevance, I would have had a better experience. I think about how I learn a lot; I look for meaning in leaning. For example, unless something has meaning to me, I probably will not learn much from the experience. So I try to find meaning in the learning I do.mea

For me, metacognition is the awareness of learning process inside self. This means to be aware on what I am thinking, why I am thinking like that and how I am thinking like that. This is really important for me because I have to manage a lot of situations and people. Without the awareness of my own thinking, I can't manage other people and even act in different challenging circumstances. It is really important in my context also as we work with Fellows who go to different rural places with limited access of support. If our Fellows and students can't be aware of their own thinking pattern, it would be really difficult for them to work independently in minimal support places.

I learn best when I get sufficient time to process information myself. The most difficult moment in school for me was when teachers did not give me time to think after asking a question. The most exciting moment in school for me was there used to happen a lot of activities which match with my passion and interest. I thought about my learning style while doing my Bachelor's. When I found this, it helped me to grow a lot. Like, I ask people to give me some time to think when they have questions

For me meta cognition is the way by which you can fully own your learning process. It means to be aware of what and how are you learning, to be able to put it in your own words and identify the functions that this learning can have. For me this is vital, i didnt study education in university, i come from social science universities, so learning has been really important in order to make the best out of my role in Enseña Uruguay. But also i strongly believe that how we teach is deeply connected to how we were taught, so in order to help our students to own their learning process and to work in meta cognition we must work with our fellows in the same way, not just pointing out the importance of meta cognition but to practice throughout the 2 years of program.

I learn best when i put my learning into practice, when i do some exercises, or when i have to explain it with my own words to somebody else, or when i have to create something out of this learning. In that moment im fully aware of how much i know, and think of strategies to go on. This process i was not fully aware till i get to college. It was really hard for me because i did not have practice meta cognition before, i was confused on what helped the most in order to understand better, to internalize learning. Now im aware of how can i learn best, i need pauses in between my studies to process everything, i need to make some notes with my own words, i need to put it into practice, and learning with others has made the difference in my life as a learner.

Metacognition for me is about knowing how to learn and they ways you learn best. It is also understanding what hinders your learning. It is self-awareness in learning.

In the Armenian context, metacognition is not often taught in schools and little attention is paid to the process. Indeed, little attention is paid to self-awareness in all strata of society.

It is hard to say why this is the case, but from the history of education, one might say that the collective nature of education, which placed the society at the center, did not leave much room for reflecting on the self. In addition, this detraction of the individual means that tailoring learning to student needs was not, and is not, common practice. It is the job of individual to meet the standard of the collective. How you learn is irrelevant, you must learn the way that you're are taught or fail out of the system and be a drain on society. Even today, the pressure to "fit into" social norms (for marriage, for family, for religion, for standards or masculinity/femininity, for behavior) is very strong throughout Armenia. Deviating from the norm is not encouraged.

I learn best when I can combine theoretical and practical (like these courses!). One without the other isn't best for me. I also learn best with informed teachers and materials who are kind- I never did well with authoritarian teachers who used pressure to get students to do things.

The most difficult moment in school for me what my 7th grade math class. My teacher expected us to listen quietly and do problems all lesson long. She did not like questions and often derided us if we didn't understand something. I fell increasingly behind and by 8th grade I failed Algebra 1. I still struggle with math, but I love looking at data in my work (practical!).

The most exciting moment in school for me was in-class debates.

I think about how I learn very often. Learning on the job is always needed and so reflecting on how I can learn what I need to learn most effectively is a big part of achieving what I need to do.

It has supported my learning and growth. Many of the foreign languages I know, I learned in adult life. Being able to understand how I learn best was a big part of doing it successfully.
