Building Human Super Intelligence: Education in the Age of AI

Key factors in generative AI include data, algorithms and processing power which collectively drive its performance and capabilities. However, several challenges mist be addressed, such as data protection, privacy concerns, and the potential overreliance on AI systems. According to the survey finding, there is a clear need for individuals to learn how to use AI tools both safely and effectively. Understanding responsible AI usage is essential to maximizing its benefits while minimising risks. As AI continues to evolve, developing digital literacy and ethical awareness will be critical in ensuring its integration into society is thoughtful and secure.

How relevant is this session to my role as an educator?

Class Companion is an AI marking platform that provides students immediate feedback on their writing assignments. It offers instant, personalised feedback, allowing students to pause, engage, and revise their work immediately.

What are my takeaways? What's the Aha moment?

Class Companion is useful for open writing assignments such as compositions that do not need to conform to specific concepts/ structures eg Sc. Feedback is given through the teacher's feeds while preparing the assignment or teacher can make use of the AI-assistant.

Class Companion allows uploads of files as AI reference so that the in-built Ditto bot is able to provide appropriate responses, eg as clarifying questions that make students engage in metacognitive activities . The bot responses may not necessarily be information download.

Marking rubric can be inserted to assist the scoring of the students' submissions.

95% of handwritten students' work can be read by the AI.

Real time monitoring of students' submissions, questions asked to bot and a general sensing of inaccuracies/ errors can be made. For the last point, teacher can do a just-in-time teaching. reteaching or unteaching so that students can benefit from. There is no time lapse between students' submission due date and teacher's feedback for class learning or for individual student.

What is one idea I can apply in my classroom/ department work?

I will try with students' PSLE Paper 1 practices to explore its efficacy as an AI marking platform.

[Katherine]

Enabling Students to be Metacognitive in Learning and Using English

Metacognition plays a key role in learning, involving three important aspects: reflecting on and evaluating one’s performance, noticing and examining one’s learning , and planning, orchestrating, and regulating the learning process. To become metacognitive learners, students engage in different stages. Before learning, they develop awareness of their thinking, set goals, identify learning purposes, and choose suitable strategies. During learning, they apply, monitor, and adjust these strategies as needed. After learning, students evaluate how effective their strategies were and reflect on how to improve them for future learning. This ongoing cycle enhances self-directed learning and supports deeper understanding and growth.
