This piece of dialog cleared up why this man with the initials G.C.K wouldn't be allowed on the family tree. This man was in a war and when you are in the war it is dishonorable to leave without being Honorably discharged . However this man had a pregnant wife so he decided to desert his group of veterans to protect her. This brought a bad name to their family so they decided as a collective group they they would kick him out of the family tree. The main person is a pilot in the military and he's in love with a girl. The military/ war explains the way he behaves, it affects the way people live (ptsd.)  Henry was in a dream for the first few pages of the book. He and Patsy (his dream gf) were in a plane that was crashing. He's insanely in love with her. He knew how to stop the plane crash but refused to even try unless she agreed to marry him.
