  • The Building and clocktower still serve as a time-capsule, albeit generally unnoticed, into Peckham’s glorious retail heritage
  • During the ’70s, Peckham became one of the most deprived areas in Europe, gaining a notoriously bad reputation – not helped by its depiction on television
  • Thankfully, Rye Lane is thriving once-again with local favourites such as Khan’s Bargains (a one-stop-shop for any Asian and Middle Eastern foods and spices)

    This day has been quite overwhelming, in terms of managing how we are planning to sell our artwork, in the exhibition. I’ve realised from these few forums, that there’s a big responsibility that’s been put on us and it’s our job to be communicating with our groups and teams, as for us to move forward, we need to physically be making progress.

    Although it’s a learning experience, I feel like there’s so much to do and so little time, especially alongside our main project. It’s been quite hectic and balancing out the two has been challenging but I’ve learnt it the hard way and started to really start putting more time, effort into my work.

    Welcome to my Ips! My current ideas for my future unit 9&10 project, is to mainly focus on my home roots, exploring my Lithuanian culture, country etc.

    I want to create a film/documentary or take a series or photos from my trip to Lithuania and translate that into a potential zine, illustrations or even clay work. I have a huge interest when it comes to working with new subjects and I thik this is a great way to to try something new and refreshing. 

    My main focus would be on folklore/mythology that is rooted in out culture and is celebrated. I most recently discovered a tradition called Užgavėnės (Shrove tuesday), which is a tradition that happens during the seventh week before Easter. I want to specifically focus on the costume aspect of the tradition, where the people hand-make their own masks, using either wood, fabric and it inspired the idea of making my own mask, potentially using clay as my medium. Instead of making one large clay mask, I could make several small ones and from there on develop them into actual clay pieces of human figures? 

    Since using clay is something I want to try using, maybe looking into artists who work with clay figurines, sculptures etc.

    It's a very ambitious idea and I usually have my difficulties when it comes to sticking to my original ideas but I hope this will lead me to try something more exciting in my practise.
