We will incorporate this by just following the curriculum of the literacy lesson and getting the basic skills/knowledge that they need to them through our lesson whether that be through the lecture of teaching it, working with others in small groups, working individually with worksheets/activities or one-on-one help with the teacher

Provide differentiated instruction based on assessment results and adapt instruction to meet students’ needs

We will incorporate this by analyzing the data of the assessment and figuring out which students need extra help. Once we figure out which students need the help, we will figure out how to get that help to them. This could be by giving them extra time, letting them work with a partner, having more group work, pulling them out for extra help, teaching them the material in a different way, etc. but once we know our students we will be able to help them through every literacy lesson in a way that is differentiated for them.

Given an example of the 5 integrated in one lesson
The literacy lesson today might be on when to use a capital letter. We will do a review on what capital letters are and show them examples of when to use them such as names, places, days, months, etc. and then we will hand out our activity if no one has questions. The activity could be sentences that written that have all lowercase letters and they have to circle a letter that should be a capital. We will provide differentiated reading/writing instruction by giving some students more time or working with them individually during this. Then we will provide opportunities to provide these skills by letting them write their own sentences using capital letters correctly. We will check these sentences when they are done and monitor their progress to see if they remember which letters need to be capitalized now that these are their own sentences. After the lesson, we will have an exit ticket where they will write when we need to use capital letters.

Provide explicit and systematic instruction with lots of practice – with and without teacher support and feedback, including cumulative practice over time

We will incorporate this by providing the essential/easier skills first and then building off of those skills so that we know our students have a strong base. This can be done through a lesson by providing a review each time and then letting students go at their own pace and level of comfort and pushing them at the right time.

Don’t just “cover” critical content; be sure students learn it – monitor student progress regularly and reteach as necessary

We will meet with our students individually to assess them and ask them questions so we know how they are feeling about the material. These assessments that we might give them could be as easy as exit tickets. We will keep track of how they are applying their knowledge in the activities that we give them for the lesson.
