We learned a lot about the ocean, especially how polluted it is with plastic. This pollution is harming the environment and all the animals in it. So, we decided to do something about it by collecting this rubbish and turning it into art. 

To begin my project, I went to the port with Eliana to find some rubbish. I did find some things, especially near the end of the water where it must have washed up. There are many ways of how the debris ended up there. One of them being from people who littered and didn’t throw their rubbish in the bin, then the wind blew it into the ocean. To end the first step of my project, I collected some of the rubbish and sticks I thought I could use and took them home. 

Next, I began to think about what I would make with what I collected. I browsed the web and looked at Pinterest for inspiration, and finally thought of making a flower. This came to mind because it seemed easy to make with the material I had. I drew out the idea to see what it would look like and made a list of any extra materials I might have needed.

Then, It was time to create my piece of art. I took a stick and stuck a bottle cap to it. After that, I cut up the plastic bags and shaped them to look like petals. Then I stuck that to the rest of the flower. It wasn’t too difficult to create. Once it was completed, we made a big poster to present what we did for our project to some children in Zaldupe. I created mine with Eliana. We stuck our pictures and drawings to it and I gave my piece of art a name, “Plastic flowers”. We finished just in time. 

On Monday, it was time to go to Zaldupe. Everyone met up first thing in the morning. We carried the artworks and posters to Zaldupe and set everything up. The children came around to everyone’s exhibition and we had to explain to them how we made our pieces of art. This was the first time I was seeing other people’s projects. They were all very creative and I liked a lot of them. 

In conclusion, I feel that this experience was fun, but also very educational, so I enjoyed doing it. My favourite step of the project was creating the artwork. I liked that this project gave us a chance to be creative, by having to draw everything and make a piece of art.
