Ailish Linskey describes herself as fun, loud and friendly; three attributes which any 18-year-old would be proud to have, along with sheer determination,  it would seem she is destined for a career in the world of media.

Ailish’s time at Harlow College has allowed her to gain life-long friendships, and great skills for the industry. One of her proudest achievements at Harlow College, has to be creating a calligram of David Bowies, famous album cover, ‘Aladdin Sane’.

The practical side of media is where Ailish thrives, although she hasn’t decided what avenue of film, she wants to pursue just yet. She knows that directing, editing or cinematography, are all potential avenues, she would want to explore. Ailish got a taste of editing, in music and video production, as she played the role editor. It’s also safe to say, this was an experience that only made her want to work in film, even more.

Outside the classroom, there is nothing more Ailish enjoys than watching films, some of her favourites include, ‘The Big Lewbowski’ and ‘Trainspotting’. This is something she got a chance to explore, in the Film Studies unit. Music is another love of Ailish’s, and during the summer months, when she has time, Ailish loves going to music festivals and gigs.

Her ambition is clear, as Ailish is carrying on her journey, by studying Film and Television Production, at the University of Portsmouth in September, and there is no doubt she will give it 100%.

Charlotte Downer defines herself as alternative and unique. Her shy personality is a disguise for the creative flair that she possesses. She takes pride in her individuality, and although she has confessed to being a quiet member of the class, she is never afraid to put herself out there.

She shows the same courage in her work and enjoys the freedom to use her media skills in creative ways. Rather than amending her work in post-production, she is more passionate about bringing her ideas to life, as she has most enjoyed the animation unit from her time at college.

Her studies have helped her to discover a new passion for acting, something that she had never done before. She doesn’t play the character of the regular girl in class and wishes to be remembered for it. Outside of college, Charlotte describes herself as an animal person and enjoys athletics.  

After learning a variety of new skills from her time on the course, Charlotte is open to the many paths of the future, as she considers going to Hertfordshire University.

She intends to take a year out and experience working life in the media, with the hope of being accepted on the BBC’s trainee scheme. Her ambitions are high as she dreams of one day becoming a BBC newsreader.

Mollie is the typical media student who has enjoyed her time on the media course. Whether it was being part of the creation of a music video or learning about the more boring side of media, she has liked taking part in all the different types of work. She is really eager to learn and find out new things so Mollies favourite part of the course was simply learning about all the different areas and aspects of the media world. This has helped her make up her mind about where she wants to take her career. After college, Mollie wants to get herself an apprenticeship either in the field of magazine or radio. Mollie decided to narrow down her career choice to magazine or radio because of her love for writing and music. Music is another passion of Mollie’s and she is a massive fan of super group McFly; her love for them has even led to her meeting them on various occasions. As well as ‘stalking’ her favourite bands, she likes going to see them perform live. Mollie also enjoys reading books and watching films in-between the spare time she has from going out with her friends. She is a loyal friend to many people and likewise isn’t afraid of meeting new people and going out of her way to be friendly towards everyone.

It’s fair to say students and classmate’s alike love Max. His classmates and teachers were full of praise for the talented teen from Leytonstone.

Max works at Clarks and is known by most as a “sneakerholic” who has serious “swag”. He loves his fashion and enjoys playing football and tennis whenever possible.

When people first meet Max, they get a very nostalgic feel, like they’ve seen him before and if you’ve seen the film Grease, it might be from there. His appearance is a strikes a freighting resemblance to Danny Zuko. Some of his classmates also talk about his resemblance to a musketeer.

Anyone you speak to, whether it be students or staff will say what a great lad he is. He’s kind, easy to talk to and extremely motivated.

Max is aiming high for the future; he is looking to become a film producer. He’s going to Hertfordshire University to study Film Production. If he continues to work hard, then for sure he can achieve his dreams and you can expect to see Max working with the next generation of big stars.

Calum is a man of many talents, he is the Jack of all cards, his creative eye exceeds him from others and makes him stand out, and his witty ways makes him a fun loving person to always be around. Although his financial savings are as bad as his hand writing skills, he can still afford to have more shoes than his girlfriend.

Although Calum likes partying, drinking and doing stuff what every other teenager does, Calum has been described as an “old man” but unfortunately for Calum his poor attempt of growing facial hair is not old man like.

Although Calum is a laid back figure, his ambitions are sky high, whether he gets the inspiration from films that he loves so much or his music influences, he aims to achieve and although his attitude is often sarcastic it is always positive, and if you want to see that first hand, you can witness him in Sainsbury’s.

Calum has high hopes for the future where he aims to go into the media industry, perhaps directing or making music videos which he admits is his favourite part of the course. I believe Calum has the ability to succeed in this industry as long as it never crosses with politics as he finds that extremely boring.

Shane has been studying Media for the past two years at Harlow College. He plans to go to Cambridge University to study Computer Science another passion of his. People will remember Shane for his unique ideas and perspective as well as his love for Anime.

People describe Shane as funny and good to be around because of his great sense of humour. Shane describes himself as assertive and can express his opinion in a constructive and effective manor.

Although sometimes shy around new people Shane has opened up and made new friends at college.  Shane states that the trip to the Time Warner studio in his first year is a standout memory of his time at Harlow College.

From my experience with Shane I would describe as a very friendly and amusing student who is very organised and willing to help out fellow students. I was very impressed by some of Shane’s photography. Shane definitely seems to enjoy his photography and was proud of this work as he achieved a distinction in this unit.

Shane is definitely a very unique and interesting person that has some excellent advice for his fellow students saying “Live life, don’t get down about anything and always stay positive.”

Shane is sure to have a great experience at University and will meet some great new people. From my short meeting with Shane I know for a fact that he will fit in to University like the line in tetris.

One of Sam’s proudest pieces of work is his magazine layout. This enabled him to show off his creative skills whilst still working to professional expectations. Sam’s creative flare also shone during the photography trip to Spain where he took many beautiful pictures.

After studying two years on the Media course and completing an assortment of units Sam realised that a future working in film and TV is for him. This is why he is to continue his education for another three years at the University of Hertfordshire studying Film and Television Production.

Dylan Bartram is a motivated and creative media student who is destined for big things. His laid back attitude is matched with a fierce determination to excel in media studies making him an ideal student. Although he doesn't have the best hand writing in the world he’s near Wikipedia knowledge is something to be marveled at.

He has shown a creative flair in his  projects across the course such as the vanilla ice music video and an advert involving a chase with a space hopper. When not working on a music video or adverts he is constantly keeping himself busy and trying new things. One of his newest endeavors is skating, and when he isn't on the floor, he’s about to fall off the skateboard and will be on the floor soon enough.

Dylan’s talents go beyond falling over and they venture into the world of music. He’s music talents extend to playing the keyboard, and when he isn't playing or writing music he is often listening to music, where he takes a different approach and enjoys listening to artists such as the self-proclaimed lyrical genius Kanye West.

After college, Dylan aspires to go to the university of Hertfordshire and study a Film and television production degree and continue with what he has learnt from his time in media studies. He has shown that when he doesn't get distracted and put his mind to it he is a very capable student.

Messer is one of those girls with that out there attitude. She’s a happy, friendly character that puts a smile on her friend’s faces. If it’s not talking about her time at gigs and festivals she’ll be seen with her friends Georgia Gunn and Anna Alexandria.

With a passion for music that shines through her work, Freya feels that her main achievements were with her practical work such as her music video that she created as well as photography.

Freya is most well known to he class as being the girl that is most likely to head out to gigs no matter what, the music comes first and she’s really had some great experiences as well as many to come. With her recent venture to Glastonbury last year and an upcoming trip to a festival in Spain the music just never stops with Freya.

Freya wants to try and reach an internship somewhere within the music industry, she is currently unsure where but would relish the opportunity to work in the music industry on the more practical side of things.

By coinciding her studies with a job at Weatherspoons in Stortford Freya has come out with a qualification, experience and everything necessary to be what she wants to be as well as meeting some great people along the way.  As well as the job Freya enjoys volunteering to help at festivals, which has allowed her to get her foot in the door of the music industry. We all wish the best of luck to you.

He does have a serious side though especially when it comes to football. As an avid Spurs supporter he is often in denial when things aren't going their way (better get used to it)

As well as football his weekends are taken up by working part time at The Range, he is an integral part of the team and his cheery persona brings a smile to everyone's face.

Jamie first found an interest in Media whilst at Burnt Mill and has thoroughly enjoyed his two years on the Media Studies course here at Harlow College  saying “You learn about a wide range of topics in the media industry”. Highlights of the course includes film studies and making/producing music videos where Jamie and his group made a creative video to Blue Monday by New Order

He even takes his passion for film making out of the classroom, working on projects at home. All great film makers have to start somewhere, Walt Disney started in his garage.

After a productive two years here, Jamie is about to embark on a new adventure at Hertfordshire University to study Film and TV Production.

Jodie started her academic life with a quick stop at Saint Andrew’s, and then Saint John’s, where she experienced the confusing mess that is known as ‘school’. However, she breezed through

effortlessly, making friends and getting along with schoolwork, choosing I.T, Media and Art for GCSE, the subjects that would shape the foundations for what she wants to become.

After checking out other colleges, she felt “they just didn’t have the same atmosphere, and it seemed like it was easier to work here”. She chose to enroll on a BTEC Level 3 Media Course. This was a

brilliant decision, as her friends agree she has a “natural talent for media”. During her two years at Harlow College, she became more confident in her abilities, picking up as much knowledge as she can to help her start a career in the media industry.

Outside of college, she enjoys the usual leisure’s of life, such as films and videogames, but holds a special place in her heart for 2D animation, creating 2D animated cartoons for web companies,

proving she’s already got her foot in the door, so to speak. She considers herself an artist, creating other forms of art, always working and improving her skills, but never afraid of learning new techniques.

After Harlow College, Jodie plans on going to the University of Hertfordshire to try and expand her knowledge and experience for in the world of Media, and she’s ready to start a new chapter in her life.

Radio is something Sonya is extremely passionate about, so much so that she already runs her own rock show, Bangers and Mosh on Hawks Radio. She spends a lot of her time outside of college working on her show, demonstrating huge potential and commitment.

Sonya describes herself as quirky, creative and friendly – a perfect combination for a career in radio. The patience, professionalism and problem solving that this course has taught her has certainly put her in good stead to complete her degree to the best of her ability.

Sonya has enjoyed all aspects of college life, but particularly directing her Blur inspired music video and understanding film studies. The teaching and creativeness of both units contributed to her success and achievement throughout the course.

Sonya has few inhibitions in life and is looking forward to going solo as she embarks on a new life living on her own. Although she will miss the teachers, the friendship and the banter, she is excited to begin the next step in her life and no doubt extremely successfulcareer.

Jade, who was once seen as quiet and timid, has grown in her time at the college to become the fierce, popular member of the group that she is now and says that one of her favourite elements of the course was being able to tell people what to do when working as a producer for a music video.

Aside from college, Jade is an avid festival-goer and 80s film watcher, with a serious love for good food. Her passion for films started long ago and has developed throughout the course as she has improved her knowledge, leading her to go on to study Film and Moving Image at Norwich University of the Arts in September.

Her hugely driven personality combined with her creativity motivates anyone who were to work in a group with Jade, but she will always spare time for others. She is a good listener and trustworthy character who values the opinions of others, something that will benefit her greatly later in life.

Tom also writes songs with his pal Dylan Bartram and plays both the drums and the guitar. He’s a major bragger with bags of confidence. Toms career as a paperboy has hit high heights with some describing him as “a paper boy to the stars”, although all jokes aside his future is looking very bright in the animation industry and everyone expects big things from Tom after university.  Hopefully by then he would of got over the “Two beers Tom knick-name” that his light-weighted antics got him branded. His classmates and tutors, especially Andy Moore, will certainly miss Tom and his departure to university will leave a void in all their lives.

Ana Alexander Pilar plans to study a BSC in Film Technology in Birmingham City university after college. She enjoys travelling and spending time with her friends, and hopes to travel round Spain, Amsterdam, Florida and Columbia in August with them this year.

Ana always brings positive vibes to the class with her chilled and down to earth personality. Her classmates refer to her as being crazy and bit of a party animal, she definitely won't have a problem with making friends at university. Ana has a variety of different hobbies, she enjoys music, horse riding and tennis. She doesn't do her hobbies as much as she would like and hopes to continue them after she finishes university.

In 10 years time Ana sees herself in a good job doing documentaries and travelling around the world. She won't have a problem in achieving her dreams and ambitions with her determination and can-do attitude, which is liked by everyone Ana meets. She will be missed by all her tutors and classmates, Ana is that member in the class that you just need to have and everyone wishes her all the best for the future.

Georgia Gunn is a media student who is passionate about having the most creative freedom as possible.

Georgia found the media course at Harlow College when she was trying to figure out a plan for her life and career. What stuck out about the media course for Georgia was that it sounded more creative than any of her other options.

Georgia would name photography and the music video units as her favourite units on the course overall. This is because she was able to incorporate her own personal interests into her work, which meant she didn't lose interest in any aspect of the units.

Outside of college Georgia describes herself as laid-back and a free spirit who enjoys traveling into Manchester and Birmingham where she visits friends and attends gigs.

After college Georgia says she would like to travel and ideally would like to work in other countries during ski seasons as she doesn't plan to go to university just yet. 

Georgia is till undecided about where she plans to take her career but will be happy as long as she is able to do as she likes and has creative freedom whilst doing so.
