Instead of having to trek across the entire Silk Road, the Indian Ocean Route made it possible to travel from Asia to Africa in one easy journey. For example, instead of taking a month-long land journey from Guangzhou to Cairo when trading spices, using the Indian Ocean Route would enable a much faster week-long journey.</div>]]></description>

It allowed merchants to not only trade a variety of items, but to also spread cultures and religion. Additionally, it connected to the Silk Road which further extended the trade and transportation of goods back and forth.&nbsp;This is demonstrated by Rome and Greece's trades with China and India. </div>]]></description>

But, there were also important objects and resources that Africa had that the Middle East had a low supply of.
