While researching The Gila Cliff Dwellings Website, and having spoke to a volunteer today at the site, I have learned many new things about this historic place. I found it interesting that it is the longest running river in the United States. I also found it interesting that there showed signs of life all the way dating back to 1200 AD.

After reading about them and visiting them yesterday I learned that the mogollan people had cave dwellings all around that area but only some of them are available to the public and some of them require long hikes into the wilderness to access. Also, because of the climate and where they lived, they could only grow corn and beans and they did not domesticate animals but they did trade with people from all over, suggesting they were a peaceful people (because violence does not encourage trading).

I learned that the people who lived in the cliff dwellings were not just hunters as I expected, but were part of a complex trade network, and were also prolific farmers. They also likely only used the cliff dwellings for part of the year.
