At the religious front it becomes a little complicated. "We have to be guarded" in church settings.

Have to be a model to those you are leading. Your team can see if you are not genuine.

Leaders are called because you need calling from god to e the leader. Cannot be leader by birth alone need to be called and made. 

Leaders are born, called and made. Its a progression. Each part has its importance. You are born, then Gods calling is on your life and then God molds you into a leader. 
Character is #1 with God. 

Leaders are called. It's a process. - we must understand character and not push ppl too hard rather adjust based on character
- comfort level must no be overlooked 
- must stay teachable, leadership is a constant journey
- let them have a self revelation rather than us telling them
- we need to have a goal but to achieve that goal we must have the ingredients holiness, transparency, humility, etc. must have a goal in the end 
- we may not have full knowledge of how but as you go thru it learn, collect and make the best out of it.
- invest time with Jesus he will provide practical ideas and plans to succeed
- working on myself has helped dramatically
- feel more of the presence of God as I led by example, serve in a way that helps someone else grow as a leader
- journey is different but the destination is the same
- as leaders we become the warehouse, showcase, pantry

NOT everyone is called. Ministers and ministries out there are  unfruitful because the calling is questionable.

Leaders have to develop skills themselves, like David- e.g. "sling shot" he trained, no one knew but one day that skill came in SUPER handy

Experiences in life are the best examples for people to feel that you are one with them. Its not enough to just speak gospel verses, not enough to just hear you, but to live through it

"Undercover Boss" is a show that regular people who are identified as leaders (get promotion) or they are demoted- actions are more powerful rather than words

Leaders must have a teachable Spirit- PhD doesn't mean you stop learning, keep looking for NEW opportunities to grow and lead

- it is important to look straight at Jesus and not at others/opponents. Stop comparing yourselves to old leaders and others around you. Keep your focus on Jesus.  We talked about an example - Michael Phelps, a swimmer who said when he competes, he looks straight ahead. not at his opponents.
