This story has some variations depending on the country where it is told. This myth tells the story of a young indigenous woman who fell in love with a Spanish soldier and had a child with him. Faced with the persecution of the offended community, she was forced to end the life of her baby, and her regret continues to haunt the roads even after death. According to the blog of the Secretary of Recreation and Sports (n.d.):

"This woman has very long hair in a mixture of black, silver, and gold colors," and "crickets, fireflies, and butterflies perch on her head. Seeing La Llorona causes great impression, fear, and dread, as her face is like that of a skull."

According to Radio Nacional de Colombia (2021): Legend has it that a fisherman named Saúl Montenegro was obsessed with watching women bathing naked in the Magdalena River. He visited a local sorcerer who helped him transform into a caiman, but when he wanted to return to his original form. The potion that should have been poured over his entire body was only sprinkled on his head.
