In our current situation, students are truly coming to us with all different skills and supports in place. In the classroom, we have more control over "leveling the playing field" whereas virtually we have less. UDL allows us to provide students with more varied opportunities to access and represent their learning.

The French lesson makes an effort to include different resources, but I feel misses the point of UDL because the lesson uses assessments that are applied to each student, regardless of interest and ability. Low engagement lesson when students have to watch a lecture. The biology lesson aligns much better to UDL practices because it allows the students to demonstrate knowledge in a variety of ways.

One of the articles discussed asking students to reflect on their strengths and needs as online learners as well as to encourage them to provide feedback to the virtual learning environment. Creating some sort of student interest survey at the beginning of online learning and then reflecting upon that as we go along could be helpful in guiding instruction and fostering meaningful virtual learning.

I was thinking about how I can encourage myself to always look at things through a UDL lens.... much like an equity lens. I'm considering making it a daily reminder or post-its...just want to encourage it to be in the front of my thinking as it becomes a habit.

i would like to use UDL to continue introducing digitals tools to students to offer them choices in synchronous and asynchronous learning. In the virtual space, i want to lead with SEL and healthy learning habits as well as regularly incorporating time for discussion. For curriculum planning, I hope to incorporate many options to meet and master the power standards.
