In other words, consumers take into great consideration the overall look and impression of a product, whether it looks like it will be worth their money, and they will also look at the various things surrounding the purchase, such as what others have thought of the product. Impressions of the company itself also play into a consumer’s decisions— the more sophisticated and put-together, not to mention customer friendly, a company is, the more likely they will get business.

One way is that clever advertising campaigns can alter your perception of the product or item by making it appear more useful, extravagant, or desirable than it really is. Another technique used by advertisers to impact your decisions is that companies will go lengths to delve into what really draws your attention and feed off of that.

A purchase I had decided to make was buying a ukulele off of the internet. I had done a lot of research on types of ukuleles, price ranges, material, and quality. Since I don’t have a credit card, I told my mom about wanting to buy a ukulele and she was on board with it. A few hours later, I saw that she’d sent me a text that showed an advertisement of bright, multicolored standard ukuleles displayed in a line. At the top, it said BEST UKULELE FOR BEGINNERS FOR THE BEST PRICE!

This ad had lured her into thinking it was the best choice with its attention-capturing quality and selection of persuasive words. I can tell this was the case because a little research of reviews of the certain brand told me that they were cheaply made and almost toys, rather than authentic instruments. Anybody who had NOT been fooled by the advertising would have realized it right away. I was sure to tell my mom, then showed her my choice of ukulele, which was a more quality wooden pineapple uke with good reviews all around the internet and half off at the moment. That was the one we purchased, and when it arrived, it was absolutely perfect- the sound quality was rich, the tuning held up great, and the build/structure was flawless.
