The history and derivation of names used in the book
- Curley's wife has no name in the book. The most obvious assumption as to why the author has decided not to have Curley's wife's name is because he is using a historical reference to the American community, where woman were considered to be a man's possession.
- Slim : The author has decided to name this character in this way is to reflect on the American society as to where people were depressing and rarely had a reason to laugh or be 'positive' meaning that his physical appearance as being a tall skinny man refers to this.


Information on any topics or events represented in the book
The major thematic topics are nature of dreams;barriers;powerlessness;fate;Christian influences;classical influences;natural influences;loss of paradise etc. This book place during America's Great Depression, which lasted from the Stock Marker Crash of October 1929 until 12 years later when World War II began.

"Him and me was both born in Auburn. I knowed his Aunt Clara.
She took him when he was a baby and raised him up. When his Aunt Clara died, Lennie just come along with me out workin'. Got kinda used to
each other after a little while." 
- This is why George had to stay with Lennie. 

"Ever' six weeks or so,"  
- If Lennie is able to convince the people to lower the price of farm, they can get buy it in end of the month by saving their money.

- George and Lennie decided to hid their plan because someone might steal or ruin their plan.

- Lennie got permission from George to be able to punch Curley.
