1. Formulate 1 descriptive, 1 associational, and 1 difference research question.

· Descriptive Research Question:

What are the percentages of open plagiarism found among EFL learners using AI-powered platforms?

· Associational Research Question:

Is there a relationship between using AI-powered platforms and the prevalence of open plagiarism found among EFL learners?

· Difference Research Question:

Are students frequently using AI-powered platforms found higher open plagiarism than those using traditional method?

2. Why is the quantitative research approach appropriate for this scenario or research questions?

The reason the approach is appropriate for these research questions are the research questions aim to find out the commonality of the respondent regarding using AI-powered platforms. Quantitative approach allows the researcher to measure the frequency or types. Also, with this approach, the researcher can examine the relationship, compare the study group and make a conclusion to the problem.

3. Why is the survey design, specifically the cross-sectional study design, appropriate for this scenario (or your research questions)? Limit your answers to 60 words.

Cross-sectional study design is appropriate for these research questions because it allows the researchers to collect the data at a single time, which the researchers can describe the prevalence of the open plagiarism, the explore the relationship and compare group among EFL learners at a single point of time efficiently.

4. Where will be your research site(s)? Limit your answers to 60 words.

The research site will be at the Department of English, IFL, RUPP. Students at DOE have experienced using various technological platforms in their learning, especially blended learning among Year 3 and Year 4 students. The students can access to AI-powered platforms when they are virtually learning. Therefore, these groups of students can be the representative for studying open plagiarism.

5. What will be your sampling method(s)? Limit your answers to 60 words.

The researcher will deploy simple random sampling for class selection among Year 3 and Year 4 students using fish bowl approach. Then, through purposive sampling, students in the selected class will be invited to take part in the study.

6. What is your research instrument? Limit your answers to 60 words.

The research instrument the researcher will be using is online survey question using Google Form platform for convenient way to collect the data. The anonymous questionnaire obtains various themes, which the researchers can effectively contain the data and analyze those data according to the proposed objectives.

I.

1. Descriptive Research Question: What is the perception of EFL teachers and students on open plagiarism among EFL learners using AI-powered platforms?

2. Associational Research Question: What is the association between usage of AI-powered platforms and open plagiarism?

3. Difference Research Question: Do significant difference exist between males and females in open plagiarism using AI-powered platforms?

II.

The research will be conducted using quantitative approach. We need to test concepts/variables including 1. exposure to AI-powered platforms, 2. Usage of AI-powered platforms, 3. Frequency of usage of AI-platforms, 4. Plagiarism usin AI-powered platforms. We can then quantify the data from the survey questionnaire to answer the research questions above.

III.

Cross-sectional research design is appropriate for this specific study. The procedure for this design is that we examine specific topics in a specific period of time. We can use the data to then quantify to see the perceptions, the association, and the difference using frequency of the data gotten from the study design.

IV.

The study will be conducted at an English School where there is no clear rule on using AI-powered platforms. This decision came to be as in that context, the students and the teachers have not yet to be expose to rules limiting their behavior on the usage of AI-powered platforms, and thus, the data gotten from this context will be most appropriate for the research study.

V.

In a school, there might be many classes, students, and teachers; thus, the population is big. However, as the resource of the research is limited, we need to get a smaller sample size. We can use cluster design technique to choose the classes randomly. We can then use simple random sampling method to randomly choose the students and the teachers to participate in our research.

VI.

The research will make use of online survey questionnaire to be the instrument to collect the data from the teachers and the students. The research questionnaire is online because it will require less resource comparing to physical ones. We can simply send a link containing the survey questionnaire; the students and the teachers can then response using their devices.

The 2nd & 3rd questions are all about counting & identifying the results’ patterns, which correspond with the main purpose of investigation in quantitative research “to quantify the extent of variation in a phenomenon”. Therefore, the quantitative approach is the most appropriate for this scenario.

The survey design is appropriate for this research because it helps to gather the needed inf. for this research.

The research site will be located at an EFL tertiary education institute and the most appropriate one is the Institute of Foreign Languages (IFL). EFL learners at the tertiary education level have more access to digital devices, thus, AI-powered platforms, than those at a lower level.

This research will use probability sampling design because only 2 or 3 EFL classes at IFL will be surveyed. This means that it’ll be a small target population, so the simple sampling design will be most appropriate along with the stratified which is essential for the 2nd research question.

The research instrument will be a questionnaire as this is a quantitative research.

what is the relationship between using AI platform for research, development and academic success for students and instances of plagiarism EFL students’ work?

How is different from students who use AI platform and who don’t? How they enhance themselves to be better than using AI platform?

Quantitative research is suitable for this scenario because this situation demands the researchers to investigate the inferences of the data among students that using AI platform their achievement and the results that they use in case there is plagiarism in their skills. So, quantitative research should apply to this for a particular topic to consider the results.

The cross- sectional study designed appropriate for this scenario because it analyses the data from students and among populations. It provides descriptive and examine the problems that we want to investigate. Moreover, it gives the ability to survey and questionnaire to individuals participating ( interviews with structures, samples frame). Finally, we can get the results by using existing data structures for research purposes to determine the inferences.

The place where we apply this for EFL students who learn English for foreign language in level 11. This topic so fascinating for using AI platform in case of plagiarism. So many students might using that platform for doing the various tasks and learning languages easily but they don’t actually think about the drawbacks of the AI platforms that could attribute the complexity of their lifestyles to studying. So conducting this research scenario for this level might appropriate for analysis the data and estimate the impact on using AI platform. To know more about the impact and investigate the results of students using AI platform their.

The sampling methods is simple random sampling based upon the number of samples that participate the research and make sure that the data will be accurately recorded by sampling methods for students that using AI platform. And the participants have a equal chance of being selected by researchers

The research instruments is structured questionnaire with likely scales items for individual students who will be selected. And provide the guidelines for students to follow each questions to answer.

Q1:

What is the level of potential plagiarism among EFL learners at Department of English of School X?

What is the association between duration of English language learning and level of plagiarism of the respondents?

Does a significant difference exist in level of plagiarism based on gender?

Q2:

This current study adopts the quantitative research approach due to some compelling reasons. Quantitative research aims to capture extent or prevalence of an issue or phenomenon. In this scenario, the key issue is how much plagiarism is being committed by EFL learners. The arrival of AI-powered tools makes cheating so easy, and this can be accomplished in mere seconds. Therefore, I am firmly convinced that this approach fits the purpose perfectly.

Q3:

The present research will deploy cross-sectional study design due to its multiple benefits. First, data collection will be simple and fast because such design requires the researcher to gather data just once. Second, I plan to invite EFL students from different year levels to complete the survey, meaning cross sections of EFL learners at School X will be the target respondents. Finally, this design ensures a large enough sample size for meaning data analyses including, but not limited to, descriptive statistics.
