The idea of smart cities are new ways people are using the internet and technology inside of everyday objects in cities, such as, streetlights, benches, water fountains and trashcans. This makes use of the objects easier and more fun, and cities are using these to increase their development of a smart city. The technological everyday objects are being called the Internet of Things (IoT), and by the end of 2015 there will be an estimated 1.1 billion connected devices. In Moscow there are smart benches that tell you your weight, and health tips. In Barcelona there are interactive bus stops that include WiFi, USB Ports, tourist information, and digital advertising. In Rio De Janeiro, there are kinetic and solar powered soccer fields and their lights are powered by the kinetic energy of the players steps, and nearby solar power.
