Today, I have learnt a range of things concerning DSLR (Digital single-lens reflex) cameras, such as basic settings on how to use shutter speed, aperture, DOF (depth of field), ISO etc... I have also learnt how to use multiple applications, such as Padlet, Qube and Showbie and have created accounts on them.

Throughout this week we did practicals with the dark room, and managed to produce some images. I feel like a lot of the process has stuck in my mind and if asked to do another picture in the dark room i would feel comfortable and wouldn't need any help. Last week we got to take a DSLR and practise what we learnt with Delta about shutter speeds, aperture etc.

Today we learnt how to do basic skills on Photoshop. I'm able to add layers, use some effects, I can blur blemishes, crop, move and add text. Previously when i have tried to use Photoshop i thought it was way too confusing and always avoided having to use it, after today's lesson i feel more confident using the program and i'm interested in learning more.

My secondary research has helped shape my ideas and has got me really interested in formal elements that I expected to not be interested in. When we first started research on photographers I really liked bright colourful photography but as my research continued I discovered that I really liked the work of Edward Weston, although his pictures do not feature colour...I like the use of tone and how you can almost feel his photos because of his great use of texture.

Being able to lend a camera for the weekend I went out and tried to practise what we had learnt in lessons about DSLR cameras. We had to get a good few pictures featuring each formal element, It was fun however slightly frustrating because I was mainly trying to get the shot rather than actually getting a good shot. However after a couple hours I started to get the hang of the camera and started to figuring out how to use it properly, however by this point the camera died. And I didn't have a charger for it... But I got a good couple pictures, heres one that I really like however it didn't come out how it was meant to but it is still clear enough to see what I wanted to achieve. I feel like I might be rushing the shot and its effecting the quality of the photo so I aim to try and take more time next time.

Mainly planning our next photo shoot, we've had to do more written work at this point than we have practicals. Im still very interested in photographing things with texture. My plan is to make my photo shoot as fool proof as possible, I'm not going to travel for my shoot as it can create barriers, I could get lost in a new area, lose my return ticket, or the public transport could fail on me. Also I aim to not use any money as the stuff is very valuable to me, i don't believe that i need to have amazing plans to create amazing photos, i believe that there are formal elements within everything we encounter, it would be unnecessary to travel to London to photograph a group of colourful flowers for example, I could photograph the flowers at the local park and the picture would be as effective. However there are certain shots that people would travel for, that I would travel for... I would travel to Alaska/Iceland/Canada etc to get a picture of the Northern Lights...however that is unachievable in my case at this moment in time. I will be doing my photo shoot at both day and night as the sun will make colours stand out bright and beautiful but then at night I can make a grungy effect on my photos.

I really enjoyed taking a DSLR camera home and going out to photograph the local scenery, I found it was very usual for me as it gave me time to figure out how to use the camera a bit better and helped me get comfortable attempting different shots (e.g., Close ups, Movement and basic camera skills such as cracking how to use the shutter speed correctly and the right aperture.) I think that my shoot went very well, there was no problems until the camera died, however next time I get set a task to do a photo shoot I will make sure I'm prepared better with a charger, so that way I can keep snapping pics all day!

I definitely enjoyed my second shoot more than my first as I brought a charger home so I could get more pictures and I spaced the shoot out a lot longer, where I would take pictures in the day as well as in the evening, also I travelled further to try and find more effective things to photograph, however my second shoot was cut short as it started to rain. However I did try to take advantage of this and tried to photograph a raindrop, I feel I did well trying to achieve this however i didn't perfect the picture, it wasn't focused enough.
