In Thailand, the Sinthasomphone family lived in a refugee camp for a year. An American-based Catholic program then helped them relocate to Milwaukee, where they settled in 1980. Life in the United States wasn’t always easy for the Sinthasomphones, but over the next several years, most of the family learned English and assimilated into American culture. Everything was going well — until Somsack Sinthasomphone met Jeffrey Dahmer in 1988.

Somsack was just 13 years old when he met Jeffrey Dahmer, who had already killed at least four boys and young men by 1988. Though Somsack escaped with his life, Dahmer sexually assaulted the teenager after convincing him to participate in a nude photo shoot in exchange for money.Konerak Sinthasomphone (brother of Somsack Sinthasomphone) was naked and bleeding in the street outside Dahmer’s apartment. Unbeknownst to Cleveland — and to the police who responded to her call — Dahmer had already begun torturing the boy. The killer later confessed that he’d drilled a hole into Konerak’s skull at that point, “just enough to open a passageway to the brain,” and injected hydrochloric acid that induced a “zombie-like state,” per the Associated Press.

An opinion from the website https://waylandstudentpress.com states that: 'How a person should react while watching a documentary about a serial killer.' They further explain: 'As a viewer, we want to hate these serial killers with every ounce of our being, as we know what they did to their victims. However, as soon as we start watching a documentary designed to reveal all the intimate details of the killer’s life, we begin to view them as human beings, and we begin to form sympathies begin for a person we shouldn’t feel sympathetic for.

Dahmer was not a human being, and should never be categorized as such. He lacked the capacity to care for others, and he blatantly disregarded the value of human life when he killed his victims. He should be remembered as an evil person, but he is constantly being glamorized by the film industry. This is the wrong type of attention.'

The Jeffrey Dahmer case happened in the late 1980s and early 1990s. So, Jeffrey Dahmer was this guy who did really awful stuff. He hurt a lot of people and did some very bad things to them. People found out about it mostly from TV, newspapers, and magazines – not like how we get news and gossip from our phones now. If something like the Jeffrey Dahmer case happened today, it would be all over social media. People would be talking about it non-stop, sharing their thoughts and feelings, and maybe even starting hashtags. It would be a huge deal online, and everyone would have something to say about it.
