The biggest challenge was scheduling time with my class to complete the usability testing and beta testing. These tests occurred during a busy December filled with school activities, MAP testing and restless students. Next semester would have been easier with scheduling.

What would you do differently going through a process like this with a team?

In the beginning, we scheduled our meetings and planned the workload. Towards the end of the project, we relied on messages through Google hangouts. Many times messages didn't get answered quickly as some of our group didn't have alerts. If we were to do it again, we would follow through with planned meeting times. It helped us keep up with our timeline and ask each other questions. These meetings were productive, especially when we came together to refine.

What would you (and can you) share with your colleagues about going through an instructional design process to create computer-based instruction? How might they use this process?

The most important work happened before we presented to students. The breakability test with my team created opportunities to build and refine our product. Each of us had an insight to add. The collaboration aspect was an invaluable asset. It took several rounds before we presented to students. Even then, we found areas that might be improved.

How could you use this process (or modified) with your students? Provide an example of what you could do (or have done).

This process is similar to the editing process I ask of my students. The first draft is a rough draft that benefits from many revisions. And editors always find the mistakes other writers overlook. When working on a collaborative project, it becomes even more important that students consider additional revisions. Students are currently working on a Gold Rush Mining collaborative project in which they must market an item to miners. Students will have to convince their peers that their supplies are better than others with a marketing campaign. The creative marketing of items already occurs during a weekly free time activity. They should consider using their background to collaborate, build, test and rebuild.
