relates to a groups practices, beliefs, norms, and values. Different groups do things differently and this makes it their culture. The image I chose is a picture from Moldova and one of the norms in Slavic culture is being very serious in photos and never smiling. In this image it is evident that culture plays a big role in how groups/society present themselves. Slavic groups are very serious and have a sad look, which differs from American culture for example, where most people in the society are outgoing and tend to be happy.

Norms are “rules” or ways that a society lives by. Most cultures have a different set of norms and what one might find strange another might find completely normal. This picture may look confusing at first glance, but it shows shoes left at the door. A norm in Slavic culture is to remove shoes when entering a home.

When a person is introduced to a different culture they may be confused on how to act or what is socially acceptable in the new culture. The newly introduced culture might be shocking when it is different from one's own culture.
