Yet I also wanted to express the tears and hurts I was going through, by creating messy scribbles of blue and red at the bottom of the page. Soon, the Lord reminded me that He was radiating His light not only through bright and beautiful moments, but also through my own experiences of hurt and pain. That’s when I started drawing rays of blue and red, reminding me that Christ revealed Himself through His own tears and blood which He shares with us.

When thinking of what to serve as the base of the monstrance, the idea of a tree trunk came up, and how the Tree of Life is also borne out of our mess, tears and blood. In a way, God reminds me that new life can arise even from my hurts and pain.

Eventually, as I felt prompted to take a yellow crayon to add more light to the edges of the rays, I noticed how the yellow light of Christ turned the blue tears into green leaves of life, and red hurts into orange moments of hope. It blew my mind to see God literally transforming these tears and hurts into beautiful graces! - Nicholas Lye
