The Birmingham Campaign happened in 1963 and it's purpose was to stop segregation in Birmingham Alabama, according to Martin Luther King Jr "probably the most thoroughly segregated city in the United States". A big part of the Birmingham Campaign was the "Children's Crusade" where the children organized a peaceful walk to protest segregation and in response they were hosed, arrested, and attack dogs were sent to stop the peaceful protest. It was instrumental for the Civil Rights Movement because it showed the true evils of segregation, inspired people to continue to protest, and solidified SLCL as an instrument for change.

The Black Power movement was a social and political movement that emerged in the 1960s and 1970s. Fighting against white supremacy to promote racial pride and equality for Black and African-American people was a goal they shared with the Civil Rights Movement, and together, they worked to fix the issues affecting their communities. The Black Power movement was willing to do any means necessary to reach its goals, while the Civil Rights movement took a more peaceful approach. Alongside Civil Rights activists, the Black Power and Civil Rights movements pushed Congress to pass the Civil Rights Act (1964).

The Little Rock Nine were the first group of black students to enroll inan all-white school in Little Rock, Arkansas in September 1957. The school was called Central High School, and the children were selected to be the first after the Board of Education battle of 1954. President Dwight D Eisenhower tried to help the children integrate smoothly into the school by sending federal escorts. However, these children were met with over 1000 angry white protesters spewing hate speech just because of the color of their skin. The Little Rock Nine played a significant role in the civil rights movement and many of the children grew up to be a part of it after high school. The first black man to graduate from Central High School was Ernest Green. The Little Rock Nine was and still is an inspiration to any young black student wishing to pursue an equal education. They show that just because others will try to tear you down for your differences it's important to keep pushing because eventually, the world will grow with you.
