In her years of building up her musicianship skills as a student, Cheryl has attended masterclasses with virtuosi around the world such as Uto Ughi, Kam Ning, Itzhak Rashkovsky, Ani Schnarch, which further enriched her expressive violinistic vocabulary throughout her studies as an aspiring musician. Cheryl regularly performs with the NAFA orchestra under the baton of Maestro Lim Yau in her student years.

 An advocate for music outreach, Cheryl performs occasionally at the National University Hospital of Singapore (NUHS) in community events taken place in the heartlands, and performing for events such as weddings and special TV programmes. In the earlier years, Cheryl was a guest violinist for The Young Musician’s Foundation Orchestra (TYMFO, now known as 'Musicians' Initiative' or MI), Singapore Lyric Opera Children’s Choir (SLOCC), ADDO Arts Ensemble, and KidzPhil@SG (now known as KPO). Cheryl is a residential violinist with SPOT Pocket Opera Theatre and regularly performs with orchestras such as the Musician’s Initiative (formerly TYMFO), Asian Cultural Symphony Orchestra (ACSO), and The Philharmonic Orchestra, Singapore (TPO).  Since 2019, notable appearances include fixed chair 1st violin with The Philharmonic Orchestra Singapore, Asian Cultural Symphony Orchestra and Musicians’ Initiative under the baton of Maestro Lim Yau, Lin Juan, Dedric Wong, Adrian Chiang, Alvin Seville, Edward Tan and Melvin Tay respectively; supporting world class soloists such as Ryan Wang, Kanon Matsuda, and Tedd Joselson; she has also presented world premier of works by notable contemporary composers e.g. Huang Ruo, Wang Chenwei, and Manu Martin. Her outreach and performance experiences provided opportunities to collaborate with well-established local singers like Rahimah Rahim, Marcus Chin, Hao Hao, Benjamin Hum, Syltra Lee, and Jeff Ng. The year 2021 saw the debut of Immram quartet at the Esplanade Recital Studio and The Arts House, established by Cheryl and three other like-minded peers.

Apart from playing the violin, Cheryl aspires to be a multi-instrumentalist who constantly explores the possibilities of exploring other musical instruments in her free time. When she was 10, Cheryl learnt how to play the piano with little to no guidance until she took up the instrument as her minor studies as a music student in NAFA. Cheryl was introduced to cello and double bass when she joined the Chinese Orchestra in both primary and secondary schools. She was given the opportunity to perform with the Singapore Foochow Association Chinese Orchestra (SFACO) as a percussionist in their annual concerts in 2015 and 2016. In 2016, she participated in the National Chinese Music Competition (Ensemble category) as double bassist of Cheng San Chinese Orchestra.

Passionate to build up her knowledge and experience in teaching, she has volunteered as alumni at annual music camps for secondary schools organised by schools in the East Zone since her graduation from secondary school in 2012 (from 2013 to 2016). Cheryl is a music teacher with MOE from 2017 to 2022. Throughout the process of setting up my channel, I have also learnt how to edit videos using different video editing softwares and audio editing to balance and equalise various tracks. This Lunar New Year, may we learn to look back at how far we have come since then, to be grateful for the things and the people around us that made this journey endurable before we look forward and anticipate what life has in store for us ahead.

Indeed, there were things that I didn't realise I took for granted until it was taken away from me. 

That gave me the inspiration to write a song that celebrates the new year, but also as a reminder to cherish the little things in life because they are precious. I hope that through this song that we would be able to find that motivation for us to carry on to do what is necessary, in hopes that things will turn for the better one day.
