I think the problem is the weak presence of the state in these places and the corruption in some stances, because there have been few cases where politicians were related to it.

Claudia L

Juan Pablo Lopez.

Certainly, those protests, specially in our continent, Southamerica, and also Latinoamerica, have consequently shown the decline of national politics & economic structures as well.
A very significant protest in History was without a doubt, when french citizens took "The Bastilla" in Paris and started suddenly the course of what would ever be a "French Revolution" then. In fact, I would not promote protests, because they encourage people over and over and can deliver into damages and probably serious consequences like vandalism acts and others into this category. Protests are just simply evidenciated naturally if an imperfection, abuse or even a situation of inequity is sometimes present in a country or region. Absolutely, it is legal according to our constitution, in a pacific way, however. In brief, taking the streets is ok if no violent actions take place, but promoting protests without justifying them will never be a democratic idea to keep a world order and peace.

I personally believe that protests can change the course of history but, it will not always have good results what it means there could be lot of people including kids that will be hurts or even died in the protests. In addition there are two different types of protests the pacific protests and the protests that are more aggressive.
So for example, last year in November 9th was a significant protests in our country against Merino government, where Peruvian citizens were not agree at all with the congress decision as a result of that protest, sadly 2 young guys died in hands of the police and finally Merino resigned as president of Perú.
Therefore I think protest can change the course of anything, also it can start been a pacific protest and then became an aggressive one so, that's why the results is not gonna be always as it was expect to be.
Yolanda Rivera

It is not a secret that our country is not only a melting pot but also a country with many indigenous communities. Unfortunately, most of these communities feel segregated and discriminated by authorities and the population. Since indigenous communities are part of our culture, it is essential for us, as Peruvians, to protect them. First, they represent part of our original traditions. We are still using their lands and knowledge of natural medicine although we do not realize it. In addition, many indigenous communities are friends with the environment. The conserve respect for nature, something that some of us are lacking. To sum up, we need to remember that even though we have different cultures and traditions we are still living in the same country, a country that needs our cooperation to be healthy and strong.
Kelly Pedroza

S: Pamela Polo
To my reckon, there are three main reasons because we have to protect indigenous communities that are relate with economic, cultural and political Peru’s interest. First of all, indigenous communities produce valuable goods that should be exported, like textile and agricultural products. Second, our identity as Peruvians is built on cultural heritage: language, values, ways of living, economic activities and social relationships base of indigenous communities. Finally, is well-know that Peru is a cultural world power, it means that we are able to use soft power in international issues that can facilities the country’s foreign policy.

In our country, there are 48 indigenous languages spoken by almost half of the Peruvian population. These communities were here before us, that is the reason why I personally think it is important to protect them, as a large number of these people have suffered and are still victims of racial and social discrimination.

Indigenous communities have their unique traditions and beliefs which should be preserved because they would probably disappear over time if we don’t. In addition, a lot of native people dedicate their lives to agriculture and cattle raising, and these activities represent an enormous income to our country.

Indigenous communities have kept our culture alive and we could learn from them and immerse in our past and embrace our heritage while we carry their traditions with us.

Walter Medina

In my opinion, the role of the JNE in the recent election could have been better.
There are basic two reasons why I consider it. The first one is the process prior to the polls: back then there were complaints that the JNE was partialized in the process. For example, there were candidates that were left out of the process because they didn't declare properties in their sworn declaration, for example, one candidate of Partido Moraado in the southern city of Arequipa, but they permitted that Martin Vizcarra, who is a friend of the brother of the current president of the JNE, could participate as a congress candidate. Another complaint is that they were very rigorous with some candidates and with some others not, for example with Hernando de Soto that was almost left out because his college title wasn't in SUNEDU, but they let that people with bad records participate, as Guillermo Bermejo of Peru Libre.
The other reason is that the conformation of the JNE could have led to a partialized process and might be the reason for the situation explained above. For example, there were only 4 members but according to the law, they have to be 5 and the vote who has the decisive election in case of a tie, is the vote of the president who also has a very questioned past defending people linked to terrorism, and is the brother of a very close friend of a past president like Vizcarra). He could have quit but he didn't.
So in conclusion, the JNE could have take better decisions to let the Peruvians feel more confident about the process.
Maria Pia Caceres

Although Indigenous Peoples are a very important part of our history, we still give them very little credit for it. These minority groups only represent 5% of the worldwide population but are also both, a historic and a cultural core of the world we live in.

We must recognise, respect and learn about Indigenous Peoples as they also represent the extreme poor living in the country and we as peruvians and as diplomat candidates must be accountable for them and as a result, work very hard in order to represent their rights and to make good and big changes in their favour.

These communities are crucial and we must protect them for many reasons and to list a few of them: a) they represent the history and cosmovision of our past and of their own present. Also, b) they lack even the most basic services such as electricity, water or internet so we must really work for them. Finally, c) they know how to protect the environment and work together as a community.

For these and many other reasons, I believe protecting and helping our Indigenous Peoples should be in our current agenda.

Romina Ibarra

The saying "do as the romans do" has a basis in the concept of cultural relativism, that Is, the principle that believes a person's practices and beliefs should be understood by the context of their culture. Considering how varied historical, geographical, economical and social context has been, and how it has shaped different states and cultures around the world, it is safe to assume that no two countries share the same ideas and ethics regarding a particular subject. While it would lead to a better understanding between individuals, often many would clash due to the different values each society and culture places. It would follow on the International Law principle of no intervention in a state's internal affairs. For example, in many African states, it is tradition to see bugs as a culinary delicacy, yet for most of the Western hemisphere; this has historically been seen as a disgusting habit. Yet, as it stands, if a curious westerner were to travel to countries like Zambia or Uganda, it would be expected for him to eat what is offered and not decline.
On the other hand, this could also have larger ramifications in society aside from cuisine, as culture diverges as well in more prominent aspects of life like the role of women in society. There are dress codes for women depending on the country, and for many Western women who are on a visit, this may seem regressive. Yet to avoid an international scandal and catch unwanted attention from strangers, the press, or even the law, it would be in her best interest to follow suit and dress accordingly. It may not be comfortable or even understandable, but to lead better cross-cultural relationships, there must be a breach between the two.

In recent years, the topic of gender equality has been mentioned more openly than it was in the last two decades. It is not unknown that women get paid less than men in some fields or companies. This might be thanks to the uprising feminist movement and the women empowerment and the increment of women in high ranking positions.

The gender quality in workplaces is a delicate subject as workplaces tend to be systematic and workers are used to work in an automated pace without questioning the standards. Also, by doing it, it might cost losing the job. Women tend to work without knowing they might be getting a wage that is less that someone doing the same work in her company who happens to be male.

For those reasons, jobs have been implementing internal laws for equal judgement and wages. And depending of the states or countries, they can also go to court to get fair treatment. In addition to that, there have been laws for taking parental leave for men and women in order to seek equality. furthermore, men can take a leave when they have a newborn with paid leave.

We need to teac children that everyone are the equal in rights, duties and obligations. Then, we have to give a quality education to children, boys and girls.
