ADHD is a common behavioral disorder usually diagnosed around age 7. It was first identified as a disorder in 1902. For many years, doctors thought the cause was from serious brain damage. The precise causes of ADHD are still unknown. Links to the cause of ADHD are biological factors based on size and density of various brain structures. Scientists have discovered that children with ADHD often have a smaller cortex. People with ADHD are more likely to lose focus, burst out, and have social issues.

ADHD stands for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. ADHD is highly treatable with proper medication and some people even choose to not take medicine with it. The malfunction of Dopamine, an important brain neurotransmitter, plays a role with ADHD. ADHD is caused by genetics meaning if one of your parents or relatives has it, you are likely to have it too. One in twenty children are diagnosed with ADHD. Rushing into things without thinking and not being able to finish a task are two symptoms of ADHD.

ADHD is a neurological condition. Individuals who have ADHD have a different number of cognitive traits or working memory. The biggest misconception of ADHD is that individuals who have ADHD are not motivated or do not try hard enough. It is not a deficit of motivation, they are working harder than anyone else because it takes them more time and more effort to get their work done.

Our brain has a huge number of brain cells. Nerve cells talk to each other to send messages to the front of the body. The frontal lobe is the command center. The messages from the front of the brian to the other parts of the brain go through complex networks of nerve cells. We need chemical transmitters to transfer messages from nerve brain cell to another. People who have ADHD have their messages send around the brain and body faster than those who have ADHD.

While watching the videos on ADHD I learned a lot of new things. Although I already know a lot about ADHD, because I have it, I learned even more. ADHD stands for Attention Deficit Disorder. This is a neurodevelopmental issue that affects about ⅔ of the population. ADHD symptoms include difficulty staying still, difficulty paying attention, and difficulty with thinking before acting. People with ADHD usually move around a lot and have a tough time focusing on the same task for a long period of time. If the person with ADHD is uninterested in the task, it is harder for them to get their work done. Trying to pay attention to things you are interested in while having ADHD causes your mind to want to wander. People that are diagnosed with ADHD usually have harder times with making friends. They can be awkward, talkative, or too energetic. Children are first diagnosed with ADHD around the age of seven, when entering school. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 13 which is later than most people. ADHD continues through adulthood and is not treatable. There are medications prescribed to help with the disorder. My family and I knew I had ADHD when I started becoming very talkative and kept getting unfocused in class. One of my teachers brought it up to my mother and that was when my mother finally looked further into testing. I got my testing back and the results were me being diagnosed. I now understand my struggles and do struggle to focus still, but I am better at catching myself before I completely lose focus in something.
