It is for those who are visually impared, those who are not, those who want to share a meal together once more, to harness connectivity between friends and family when it has been stretched to its limits due to recent events. To invite back meal time conversations, memories and the experience of sharing a meal. 

A large textile patchwork piece, Bojagi, using different materials and embroidery to create a highly tactile and textural piece depicting a meal so that there is a visual depiction but also readable by the visually impared through textures. The meal depicted is to invite back the idea of sharing a meal between people and hopefully bring back fond memories bringing those involved a sense of being closer to each other. 

It would be used when someone is wanting to share a meal, a mealtime memory or the experience of sharing a meal. To connect to the other through thought and the same values of a greeting card; to let someone know you are there, you are in their thoughts, reaching out and showing you care. 

It could be used as simply a gift to another to be framed on the wall or as a blanket/quilt, as gift wrapping around a meal that could be sent to the loved one. It could be placed just in the home or in an interactive immersive experience exhibition in a gallery. 

Even though it doesn’t have a designed purpose of utility, the message and meaning that it would carry is its purpose. Due to the multiple levels of connectivity between the blind and those not, through sharing memories, a way of maintaining connections during the pandemic and reaching out in thought and gesture gives the textile an important use. It would be nice to think that the piece would help to improve people's moods, mental wellbeing and feeling of being with friends and family. 

I am going to investigate more into the different materials that could be used to create highly tactile and varied textural pieces through artist research for inspiration. I will continue to look into Bojagi artists, textile artists and also illustrators who create geometric imagery of food. I also will keep looking into how the blind would read the different textures differently, how they differentiate objects and textures using tactile symbols such as in the kit and gallery exhibition books. The meaning of sharing a meal, its importance etc. and why its an important thing for those who are and aren’t visually impared.
