This page collects some of the results of my work and reflections while I was taking my usrah lessons at Universiti Islam

Internasional Malaysia.

The purpose of this ePortfolio is to fulfill assessment requirements for the CCUB 1061:

Usrah 1, Seksyen 104 course this semester.

My academic journey has deepened my interest in social sciences as well as the history of human development.

I enjoy sports and have an interest in becoming a soccer player.

My goal is to become someone who can convey knowledge clearly and impactfully, both through speech and writing. One of my goals is to become an educator who can inspire and impart valuable knowledge to others.

At the beginning of the lecture, I got an explanation about the courses that would be studied for one semester. The lecturer explained the learning objectives, evaluation methods, and assignments that students had to complete.

The Hadith of Jibril is one of the most important narrations in Islam because it summarizes the core principles of the religion. In this event, the Angel Jibril came to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in the form of a man with a very neat appearance. In front of the Prophet’s companions, he asked several questions that were actually meant to teach the fundamentals of the religion. First, he asked about Islam, and the Prophet explained the five pillars: declaring the faith (Shahada), performing the five daily prayers (Salah), giving alms (Zakat), fasting during the month of Ramadan (Sawm), and making the pilgrimage to Mecca (Hajj) for those who are able. Then Jibril asked about faith (Iman), and the Prophet answered that it consists of belief in six things: belief in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, the Day of Judgment, and divine destiny (Qadar), both good and bad. The third question was about Ihsan, which the Prophet described as worshiping Allah as though you see Him, and if you cannot see Him, knowing that He sees you. Lastly, Jibril asked about the signs of the Hour, and the Prophet mentioned several signs, including the loss of knowledge and the reversal of social order. After Jibril left, the Prophet explained to his companions that the visitor was the angel Jibril who came to teach them their religion.

The Five Pillars of Islam are the core duties that every Muslim is expected to observe as a demonstration of faith and devotion to Allah.

1. Shahada (Declaration of Faith): Affirming the belief that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His final messenger.

2. Salah (Prayer): Offering prayers five times a day at specific intervals to maintain spiritual discipline and closeness to the Creator.

3. Zakat (Almsgiving): Contributing a fixed portion of one’s wealth to help those in need, which also serves to cleanse one’s wealth and encourage social justice.

4. Sawm (Fasting during Ramadan): Refraining from food, drink, and other physical needs during daylight hours in the holy month of Ramadan to grow in self-control and God-consciousness.

5. Hajj (Pilgrimage): Performing the pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca at least once in a lifetime for those who are able, symbolizing unity, humility, and obedience to Allah.

These five acts are not only forms of worship but also serve as the foundation for ethical and spiritual living in Islam.

Overview of the Pillars of Iman (Faith)

The six Pillars of Iman represent the fundamental beliefs that form the foundation of a Muslim’s faith. These beliefs define how Muslims view the world, their purpose in life, and their connection to Allah:

1. Belief in Allah: Believing in the oneness of Allah as the sole Creator and Sustainer of everything, without any partners or equals.

2. Belief in Angels: Accepting the existence of angels who are created by Allah and carry out His divine instructions without question.

3. Belief in the Holy Books: Having faith in the revealed scriptures sent to Allah’s prophets, such as the Torah, Gospel, and especially the Qur’an, which is the final and preserved message.

4. Belief in the Prophets: Believing in all the prophets sent by Allah to guide humanity, with Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) being the last and final messenger.

5. Belief in the Day of Judgment: Trusting that there will be a final day where every soul will be judged for its actions and rewarded or punished accordingly.

6. Belief in Divine Decree (Qadar): Understanding that everything that occurs—whether good or bad—is within Allah’s perfect knowledge and plan.

These beliefs are central to a Muslim’s identity and influence their actions, mindset, and devotion throughout life.

THE REFINING FORCE OF SABR (PATIENCE)

Sabr, or patience, is a central virtue in Islam that strengthens the believer’s character and fortifies the soul against life’s trials. It is more than simply enduring hardship—it is the active choice to respond to challenges, delays, or suffering with steadfastness, trust in Allah, and inner calm. Sabr is reflected in three primary areas: enduring difficulties without complaint, restraining oneself from sin during temptation, and remaining committed to righteous deeds despite obstacles. This quality nurtures spiritual maturity, emotional resilience, and moral clarity.

To cultivate sabr, one must reflect on the stories of the Prophets, engage in regular prayer, and remind oneself of the temporary nature of worldly struggles. Making du’a in times of hardship, practicing gratitude, and surrounding oneself with supportive, faith-driven communities can further reinforce patience. The Qur’an consistently praises those who show sabr, promising immense reward in both this life and the hereafter. Embracing sabr allows Muslims to face life with hope and determination, contributing to a more compassionate, stable, and enduring society while deepening their trust in Allah’s divine wisdom and timing.

THE VALUE OF TRUTHFULNESS

The topic titled “The Value of Truthfulness” highlights how essential honesty is in Islam. Truthfulness is considered a reflection of strong faith and integrity, and the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was known as Al-Amin—the Trustworthy—because of his commitment to truth. Islam teaches that speaking the truth, even in difficult situations, builds trust within the community and reflects a believer’s commitment to righteousness. Being honest in words, actions, and intentions helps prevent misunderstandings and strengthens relationships.

The Qur’an and Hadith frequently stress the importance of truthfulness, placing it among the most virtuous traits of a believer. Surah At-Tawbah 9:119 calls on believers to be with those who are truthful, indicating that honesty is a trait that elevates one’s spiritual and moral standing. Practicing truthfulness nurtures personal integrity, promotes justice, and ensures transparency in all aspects of life—from family matters to business dealings. In conclusion, truthfulness is not just a moral virtue but a key foundation for a just, trustworthy, and spiritually fulfilling life in Islam.
