The intended audience of the vignette are children who do not acquire obedience. The author hits upon the surface on how younger individuals who were female were exceedingly desperate to go out to obtain a sense of adventure in order to fulfill their curiosities that they would end up lying to their parents and continue to lack obedience. This tale offers a lesson to children, a lesson of behaving in accordance to the expectations of their parents. The author states at the beginning that "stories and games often taught middle-class girls the lesson of obedience and domesticity." This quote embodies the author's purpose in writing this parable and the lesson that is supposed to be taught as a result.

The intended audience for the vignette is, a lesson for non obedient children. A conclusion that we can draw from this story is how, the mother is suppose to take care of all the house hold chores, like teaching and raising her children. The mother were also expected to be the main source of comfort and liability. " It is the mother now of a happy family and whenever any of the children show a discontented spirit..."
