Sandy Hook Promise: Gun Violence Warning Signs

This short clip by Sandy Hook School in 2016 displays the element of audience and purpose when the video is trying to spread awareness about the visible signs of gun violence to the general public. The school witnessed a school shooting that was recorded as one of the deadliest shooting in the United States in 2012. The school then created this video to let the general public know that school shootings can be prevented if people are able to spot the signs early. I believe that this video clip is an excellent example of the two elements of rhetoric writing because it does a fantastic job appealing to the audience with a clear message.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qyD7vjVfLI

Citation:
Syracuse.com.
How The Two Elements Are Translated Into Visual Arts

The element of audience and purpose can be applied in visual arts today when writers or artists aim to relay an important message or meaning through their writing or artwork to an audience or crowd. For example, movie directors can produce movies that give the general public the awareness of the corruption within our government. In this example, the purpose of the movie was to spread awareness and the audience was the general public. Similarly, when writers and artists aim to spread awareness or a message to the general public or a focused audience, they are implementing both of the elements of rhetoric writing.

Two Essential Elements In Rhetoric Writing

Two important elements that can be found in rhetorical writing are purpose and audience. The audience is an essential element in rhetorical writing because it allows the writer or artist to focus on who he/she wants to convey the message of the writing or artwork to. Without being clear who the writing or artwork is for, it can be very difficult to know how to persuade people using the writing. In fact, not knowing exactly who the writing is for can cause the writing to lack persuasiveness and meaningfulness because the writing fails to correctly appeal to the crowd. By knowing who the writer or artist wants to appeal to, he/she can have a clear idea of how the writer or artist should approach the writing or artwork. The purpose is another essential element of rhetorical writing because it gives the writing or artwork a focus and meaning. If the writer or artist knows the purpose of the writing or artwork such as relaying a message to the readers or viewers, the writer or artist can have an easier time thinking of ways to accomplish that goal. In contrast, if the writer or artist does not have a clear purpose behind the writing or artwork, he/she would most likely face difficulty finding a meaningful reason to write or produce art, which can also lead to ruining the writer's ability to write something that appeals to the readers and which can additionally ruin the writer's motivation to write.
