What Evidence Supports Wegener's Theory?

First of all, Wegener's theory was that all of the present continents were once a huge super contintent called Pangaea. Pangea was made of Africa, South America, North America, Eurasia, Australia, India, and Antartica. He got the idea of it when he saw that that South America and Africa fit together perfectly. This is strong evidence. Another piece of evidence is the fossils, or any trace of an ancient organism that has been preserved in rock, of the same types of life on different continents. The animals could not have traveled over vast oceans that presently exist. This had to have happened from animals spreading all over a supercontinent. This lead to the possibility of a land bridge. Wegener believed that Pangaea was originally near the south pole; the centrifugal force of Earth caused the supercontinent to break apart. Then the continents drift towards the equator creating the current landscape of the earth.

There are three types of heat transfer: radiation, conduction, and convection. Radiation is the transfer of heat through space. Conduction is the transfer of heat through materials touching. Convection is the transfer of heat through liquids. Convection current is the flow that transfers heat within a liquid. Convection currents occur in the mantle of the Earth, and moves plates and causes continental drift. Other things contribute to continental drift, but convection currents are the biggest factor.
