As a result, chemistry captivates me is because of how complex and intricate it is. How are tiny little electrons buzzing around a nucleus of positively charged atoms? What causes potassium to react with water? I can ask an endless amount of questions about the complexity of chemical bondings, but to save time, I won’t.  Since I didn’t know a lot about the field, I wanted to talk to pharmacists near me. I was asking around and that’s when I figured out that there were two successful pharmacists attending my church.

Bingo! This was my opportunity to reach out and find out more about my future.

I was eager to know about the challenges and the successes and the patients and the schooling leading up to a pharmacist. I wanted to know as much as I could about the field I was setting foot in.

Rich Choi didn’t seem as passionate about his job compared to Joomi. Joomi told me she’s had many experiences in the different fields of pharmacy itself: retail, companies, and the government. I thought she was the perfect person to talk to to gain the most insight before going off to college.

During the interview, I was grateful that Joomi gave me so much advice not just about pharmacy, but also about life after high school. I think she could relate to me more because she is a female while Rich was not. After the interview, I became more adamant I wanted to pursue pharmacy and start my life journey.

Even though she told me the challenges and struggles she faced, the successes and benefits of college definitely outweighs them all. The conversation made me think about building interpersonal skills. It is crucial that all pharmacists can deal with patients in a professional manner. I’m still a senior in high school, on my way to become a freshman in college, but I know I have a long way to perfect my interpersonal skills and relationships. I wonder how I could build these skills. Is it more practice just socializing? Where can I meet a broad range of people? How could I cooperate with angry patients?
