When Joe said that grading is a hot button issue for teachers because "it's one of the last spaces for autonomy in our profession"; this reminded me about the BATTLES I've heard from my mom about standards based grading, and conversations I've had in the XLC Antiracism group. Makes me consider how to roll out a new "policy"--it is enough to just ask teachers to start thinking about the purpose of grading? I feel like if most teachers at XL paused and learned about "Equitable Grading" many would be open to it, test out some practices, and then be open to a redesign; just making a blanket change would sow resentment.

I thought the discussion in the podcast about teacher pride and ownership of grading was interesting. As a new teacher, I did no feel a strong connection to that piece, and wonder how teachers who have been teaching longer will/would respond to a massive shift in grading?
