Melissa Friedman

I used the Shout It Out feature this week. I really loved it and so did my students. They loved being able to share their experiences with the text. It also provided me an opportunity to practice equitable voice in the classroom. Some of my students even got creative and asked further questions for others to answer. I also tried the Graphic Organizer feature. I used this to help plan our opinion writing essay. It was really useful and allowed students to not only plan, but revise their thinking in real time. I love that you can combine graphic organizers to guide your students. I am excited about learning more ways to engage students.

I find Lumio's sharing feature incredibly valuable for team collaboration.

My students enjoyed the change of pace and the chance to collaborate on ideas and information about a chapter in 'The Hope Chest' when we used the group workspace with the Window Notes strategy.

Since being introduced to Lumio, I’ve been looking for more ways to incorporate it into my teaching and use it more consistently. I know this class is the perfect opportunity to do just that!

This week, I explored the "Quickly Assign Groups" feature on Lumio, and I loved how smooth it made student collaboration. I was able to set up groups in just a few clicks, and students could start working together from their seats without having to move around or waste time. It really helped streamline our transitions and kept the class engaged. One thing I’d like to learn more about is how to differentiate the groups based on student levels. I want to make sure each group has a good balance and that all students are being challenged appropriately.

WEEK 2: I used a shout it out and pre-made smart activity. The students really enjoy the "shout it out" tasks. They have ownership of their work and enjoy sharing it with others on the board. The shout-it outs also decrease transition time and increase learning time, which is great too!

The other idea I implemented were 2 pre-made tasks from SMART. One on dynamic dialogue was a little repetitive, so I closed the task sooner than I had anticipated. The other task was on run-on sentences. Students enjoyed the different ways to respond to questions. Some students did a great job of helping other students if they weren't sure how to answer within the task.

I am new to using Lumio, so I decided to use the Shout it Out tool to get students to share their answers to the question, "what do you notice and what do you wonder" about a four quadrant picture that depicted the battle of Ft. Sumpter! This was a great activity, because students enjoyed being able to have their voice heard in an activity where it is often difficult for me to allow everyone to share.

This week, I (Tracy Pelinsky) uploaded a science slideshow into Lumio. I created a "Monster Game" to assess student learning. I had Lumio assign students into 5 groups. They loved it! Students were competitive, but they cheered each other on and supported students who needed a little help. The link is below if you want to check it out. The program was user friendly and didn't take very long at all to complete.

https://lum.io/share/b17656e0-47e6-4d5e-b34e-933675fd1aba
