Qualifications-To run for the house you have to be 21 years old and have 1 year residency. To run for Senate you have to be 25 years old and have a 2 year residency.
General Assembly Leadership- Speaker of the house presides over the house and makes key appointments. 50 NC senates; Lieutenant Governor is president of the senate and the only real thing they do is participate in a tie breaking vote. Pro-tempore is the leader of the senate and makes all key appointments for the senate. Senior member of the committee is the chair.
Legislative Sessions- Short Sessions in even number years (6 weeks), Long session in odd numbers (6 months), and Special Sessions. Those are called by governor, the president of the senate, or the speaker of the house.
Key Legislation- In 2005, The North Carolina Education Lottery was created for all of the profits to go into the education system. In 2006, it was the first minimum wage jump. In 2016, HB2 (Public Facility Privacy and Security Act), stated you can go into any bathroom that you wish.
