This leads to a greater population of poor people, like the boy, who have harsh backgrounds and are more inclined to committing crimes for their survival.

I learned that the 3rd Juror was someone who worked hard to build up his career and his business, and would lead him to be more assertive in his decisions and ideas on the case.

2. I felt more comfortable in the small table discussion because I was also able to voice my thoughts as I came up with them- rather than waiting for many people to speak first.

Only Juror 8 (our juror) had a completely different perspective. From the group I was in, we could agree that Juror 3 was a side character. Juror 6 is also a side character.

2. I am able to refer to the plot while we read pretty well now because I can keep a little summary of the part that we have read so far, and I am able to see the differences in the storyline as more dialogue is said.

3. Something that has been helpful was re-reading the story because it allowed me to connect pieces together that were stuck in my head. Something that had me confused was the name of the Jurors and how they act. It is confusing for me because I can only talk about Juror 3 and Juror 8 because they stand out compared to the other Jurors. The other Jurors just agree with whoever makes a better statement.

In the first stanza, the symbolism we found was, "we carry, a sea we must wade"; "braved the belly of the beast"; and "we find light- in this never ending shade". The impact of this symbolism is that it paints a better picture of the story expressed in this poem. For the message of the poem, it helps the reader bring out more patriotic feelings.

The alliteration in this stanza along with the word choice shows the importance of the meaning of the paragraph. It shapes the poem because it shows patriotism and strength in being united in our country. The tone of this stanza is very emotional and makes the reader empathize more with the meaning. The mood of this stanza is relatively serious because it talks about our legacy and the future of this country.

For example, Amanda mentions the Bible to establish credibility.

Amanda uses pathos to help the audience understand the accomplishment that was occurring before them.

C) I think Gorman is very optimistic because in her writing “The Hill We Climb,” she writes very positively overall. Based of her writing, I can see that she sees the good in people and she wants everyone to grow as a person. Even though she writes about some negatives like “…a country that is bruised..” which shows weakness to the people, she continues writing positively showing what people could do by the use of figurative language throughout the writing.

D) I think Gorman’s view and Rose’s view are contrasting because in Gorman’s writing, she is asking people to improve themselves. But in Rose’s play, the judges are convinced after multiple argument that the boy is not guilty which shows that people can change once they are convinced. But, the play by Rose and the writing by Gorman have different ways of conveying their message and the end result are to show people allowing people to realize what they are doing and how they could change for the better.

Overall, she talks about building a better country and the progress we have made up to this point. She uses certain words like laughter, pride, brave, and legacy which all portray a hopeful mindset by the author. Although at times Gorman talks about negative topics like burdens and blunders, she uses them to signify our country's room to grow.

Specifically, Rose shows the flaws in certain peoples' mindsets and personalities, which could cause huge problems/mistakes in the world, all through the representations made by her jurors. Gorman talks about our past and the mistakes we have made in history and what consequences they led to. On the other hand, Gorman talks about the rebuilding of the future and how we plan on improving in the near future as a country. Rose shows that there are still good people in this world through her portrayal of the 8th Juror.

C: In "The Hill We Climb" by Amanda Gorman, she expresses both pessimistic and optimistic views on the United States. But personally, I believe that overall, Amanda has a more optimistic view on the future of America rather than pessimistic. The fact that every time there is a negative take on an aspect of America in her speech, it is swiftly followed up with a hopeful statement trying to inspire others on how hope is just lost, not yet gone; Leads me to believe that Amanda is trying to be uplifting while still being realistic on the state of our nation in her stanzas.

D: I think that Gorman's views directly contrast with Rose's views because while Gorman's speech includes both the bad and corrupted side as well as the triumphant side of America, she seems to be more focused on inspiring people in her stanza, with the main idea of America can still be improved if we came together and unite as a nation. Rose's media in the form of the 12 Angry Men play, focuses on the more dark and corrupted side of America, where people who are in trusted with the privilege to decide the fate of another person's life just think of the whole process as a waste of time. Rose's views are more pessimistic than Gorman's because 12 Angry Men shows how corrupt America really is and how a 'fair trial' advertised to the rest of the world isn't how it really is if you look a little closer.

C. In "The Hill We Climb" by Amanda Gorman, I think Gorman is very optimistic about humanity. Throughout the entire poem, Gorman is constantly talking about the problems we have in the world today and how they are effecting society in a bad way. However, after each problem she states she goes on to talk about how there is hope to fix it and become a better and just society. Furthermore, the entire poem as a whole is emphasizing how there is hope for the future even though not everything is ideal in today's world.

D. Gorman's worldview both compares and contrasts to Rose's. They are similar because they both talk about some of the problems in the world, while also expressing signals of hope. Gorman does this by stating one of the problems we are facing, and then directly proceeds to talk about how we can overcome this problem in the future and how there is hope. Rose expresses some of the problems in the world by showing corruption in the jurors, but also signifying that there is hope through people such as Juror 8. However, Gorman and Rose are also different in a way because although both of them talk about the problems and hope in the world, Gorman tends to focus a lot more on the side of hope, and Rose tends to focus more on the corruption and "dark" areas of the world.
