Paragraph: Beauty needs to be seen?

Beauty needs to be seen, I will explain it in terms of the appreciation of art. Throughout centuries, many artists create different artwork, such as architecture, painting and sculpture. However, in most of the times, their artworks’ beauty is being neglected. For instance, Vincent Van Gogh, who died in 1890 only sold one painting in his lifetime, which lead him to live in poverty and sorrow. It was a pity that his artwork only started to be recognized by people after 1910. Beauty is sometimes hidden everywhere in our life and needs to be displayed for people to appreciate and enjoy them, otherwise it could lead to bad circumstances of the people who create beauty.

Therefore, beauty needs to be seen for the benefits of the admirers and creators of beauty.

Physical beauty raises people's confidence, self-esteem and is important in attracting the other sex. The feature that physical beauty can always be modified anytime actuates beauty industry to increase their advertising in order to attract more customers to purchase beauty products and services, for instance, 65.5% of adverts on The Next Magazine are about slimming, cosmetics and women clothing (Chan & Cheng, 2012). Being influenced by gender stereotypes portrayed by advertisements, people have been increasing their expenditure on medical aesthetics service, from $3637 in 2011 to $8684 in 2019 (HKEXnews, 2016). However, the extreme pursuit of beauty such as having extreme diets and frequent medical surgeries for a slimmer image can create negative consequences. This essay will first introduce the intense beauty advertising atmosphere in Hong Kong, and hence explain the impacts brought by the pursuit of physical beauty.

References:

Chan, K., & Cheng, Y.

The Environment is beautiful in the way it provides us with spectacular sceneries, a wide variety of living species and plenty of natural resources. However, the beauty of environment is vanishing due to the pollution problems caused by burning of fossil fuels, consumerism and product manufacturing by business companies who prioritize profit making. This essay argues the importance of lowering product carbon footprint by the government, businesses and citizens, in order to create a sustainable environment and to preserve the nature’s beauty for our future generations. This essay starts by introducing the importance of environmental protection, then moves on to the responsibility of stakeholders for the carbon emissions in a product’s lifecycle, and finally argues with how citizens’ effort is necessary to preserve the environment’s beauty.

The environment should be protected as not only does it provide us with beautiful landscape but also raw materials that can be made into products used daily. For the past century, people have been hiking on mountains, diving into oceans, travelling to rainforests to refresh themselves by enjoying nature’s beauty. These places are full of natural resources, such as natural gas under the seabed, trees in rainforests, which are made into products. For instance, production of paper and paperboard derived from wood has expanded rapidly, with a drastic increase of 141% from 1980 to 2018 (FAO, 2020). When trees are cut too frequently, deforestation might be resulted, leading to the rise in greenhouse gas emissions. Ryan et al. (2012) states that U.S. forests act as a carbon sink offsetting 10% to 20% U.S. carbon emissions each year. On the other hand, some businesses neglect this problem and prioritize economic development over environment protection. They believe that extracting raw materials for safeguarding the use of products for customers can bring wealth to the city. However, when the deforestation rate is higher than reproduction of trees, wood sources will deplete soon in the future, which in turn affects businesses with the inadequate supply of timber for manufacturing products. Therefore, the environment should be protected for a sustainable environment and sustainable economy.

References:

Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.
