This is mind-boggling to kids like us today, because we aren't use to smoking being a regular and socially acceptable thing, but this quotation shows that it's not only legal and sociably acceptable, they were also "cool." Cigarettes costed about 25-40 cents per pack, which is equal to about 2.57-4.11$ today. Some of the most concerning risks that people knew about were lung cancer, asthma, resperitory infections, and decreased pulmonary function.
