My thoughts over my first Orchestra Performance.

I was really shocked at how beautiful the place was and how classy everyone looked on stage. This was my first time watching an orchestra performance, so I was prepared for what everyone mostly says about them which is that they're long and beautiful or boring (depending on if the person enjoys the music). Once I sat down, I started to read through the program notes to discover the historical meanings of the songs. Once they started to play, I anticipated for them to start off very loud, but they actually started somewhat peaceful and quiet. Afterwards, more and more instruments started joining into the song making it more intense. There were many times where it got quiet, but it eventually went back to being loud or sometimes just stayed at medium level sound. Just the act of an orchestra playing reminded me of the canon and how they were quite similar to it. Furthermore, it made it more exciting to compare the program notes to the actual song being played. Overall, I thought the performances were played really beautifully. I will admit that I almost fell asleep for a couple of times, but I think that's only because I didn't get much sleep from the night before. I truly give props to the performers that night and also to those from the canon who created and played music.

There is something about the live performance of an orchestra that makes it very different to a film. With a film, you can rewrite it in a way with the material you have, and in rehearsals, you're really trying out different things. In an orchestra, you can't do that. They separate as soon as the performance factor comes into play. -Gael Garcia Bernal
