I had some big words and ideas and broke them down lots into sub sections and smaller themes within.

This trip can help come up with ideas for the project and I do like the 6 different colour posters. I will keep note of all the pictures i have taken and then will see if they can help in the future of my project.

They all give off a dark and almost sinister look to them with some being linked to the future which is what a dystopia is but also some link to politics which make sense as policies and government are the ones who determine how you live.

The one surprisingly I recognised first was the painting on the right called The card players which was done by the artist Paul Cezanne. It is a painting depicting two men playing cards and being absorbed into the game. I like this artwork so much because of it's simplicity but it makes me feel calm just looking at two men just sitting there play a game.

The artwork on the left is From Vincent Van Gogh and it is called Self-portrait with bandaged ear. This is considered a very famous portrait of himself where the art description says he is showing his artistic power and personal struggle. The art was made with painting and impasto strokes.

His work stood out to me a lot because of his iconic and recognisable style. I want to have a style that people know me for.

I could also see the damaged work and ripped paper in his work which I like as it shows many attempts and a lack of perfection. Charcoal work could definitely be a consideration with experimentation this project and I am familiar with it and its challenges but could be a good technique to use.

The whole exhibition was about cute things, objects and how cuteness can be weaponized or helped into consumerism. It is such a big subject with so many artists and interesting pieces in it. I could actually see this as somebody's theme and it would be very interesting to see what others have to say about it.

the piece where the lady is leaning on a stool in all pink who is Juliana Huxtable. The piece has a meaning within the trans-humanist and cosplaying/furry culture but I just found it very interesting and just how different it looked compared to anything else I saw in the exhibition.

There was also a whole section dedicated to hello kitty and how she as a character and product is associated with being cute and most products in that room just having hello kitty on it.

Finally in the bottom right corner is Mike Kelley and how he went around finding and buying old teddy bears and kids toys to photograph like in a year book. I like the idea of finding subjects that are not real and have been abandoned and giving them purpose again.

Overall all of then associate with cute or have a more hidden meaning.

This is not the breakdown of the film and what I can use for the project but a good start into the in-depth research stage for dystopia and getting a better look and deciding on my own vision for it.

I did talk about how I need to watch films, read books, play games and research the real world.

Not only that but I found these images to be strong pictures with key scenes from the film and how an image or screenshot for example can set a scene.

This has given me the idea that I can possibly try photography later down the project and see if I can do portrait photography or even set a scene or mood. This is fitting with the research aleady on Dianne Arbus.

A colour or two I would say I see a lot in this movie is black and blue and from these images you can see that very well.

By the end we had a drawing from every angle and it was actually a fun lesson. This was observational drawing and sadly I did not get any of the pictures I drew.

A big reason this talk helped is because I chose illustration as my specialist practice and it will be my course next year for university.

Knowing the process of this technique can be helpful if I ever come around to wanting to use it in the future.

It is to help with developing techniques and skills with photography. There are many things I took from this book that will help.

The book goes over the journey and career of Stefan Sagmeister from making simple illustrations and posters to literally carving words into his body or getting naked for advertising. He made posters for concerts, album covers, used mixed media, created exhibition work and much more.

A piece of his work which stood out to me was back in 1986 when he had to make 20 interactive postcards which where triangle shaped. One was glow in the dark, another was an optical illusion and I like them so much because every single one was different.

Overall I think this artist research helped gather more ideas for illustration and what they can look like but also look into the career and life of a successful artist and the journey he took across the world over the years.

It asks people the question of should we be giving A.I freedom or what makes somebody human. I notice that to be a similar theme to Blade Runner with it's androids.

This film shows that A.I can lead to war and millions being killed from either side. Even during the film, one of the cities is very much cyberpunk themed with it's neon lights, big advertising and enhanced technology.

I think a very important visual aspect to note which comes up in a lot of these pictures and videos is the Japanese language or other languages on neon signs in the city which is straight out of neon Tokyo.

It starts off with stating how complex A.I has become and will eventually be everywhere and every aspect of our day to day life. before talking about the bad of A.I Jamie acknowledges the benefits such us travel, medicine but goes right back to stating how because of advancements, technology will hold power over us as we will rely on it even more.

A point that stuck with me was the moral challenges of technology and what it can be used for such as virtual sex, criminal activity and privacy. To sum up the book and what I was able to read, This heavily relates to the idea of dystopia. The book looks at the future and how bad it can truly be if nothing is regulated like technology and all the bad it can do for the world. Knowing all the challenges the future can bring is scary and it can be very likely we are moving towards a dystopia and makes people ask what can they do about it or how they can prepare for it.

That is why I researched the book and relates to the target audience I am going for. I want people to think about a potential future of chaos or even the present day they live in.

Philippe states that globalisation is eroding our identities and losing to the big corporations that are taking over the world and its economy. Something interesting he did say was "we drive German cars, listen to Japanese Hi-Fis, eat French food, drink Colombian coffee, wear Italian clothes, buy Chinese toys, use American software".

This is a great example of globalisation and the world getting smaller with everyone being a part of another countries culture through food, fashion and technology. Now this relates to dystopia and cyberpunk because globalisation started with trading goods back in the 1900s and then people migrated and businesses rose up and became apart of everyone's lives. This is all seen in depictions of the future and various pieces of fiction such as Blade Runner and Cyberpunk 2077 where different cultures are seen everywhere but big brands control most of the world and are a factor of mixing of culture.

Overall I can use this research and more to influence my project and start moving it in a direction that incorporates globalisation.

A big reason why I am fascinated by banksy's work is because of the bald black and white style that outlines key details on a subject being spray painted. It doesn't focus on detail and being realistic but to look more powerful with it's lack of colour and simplicity of colour. His work have provoked thought and discussions especially in politics because when people are not happy with a situation or way of live, they may want to spread a message and get people to think and that is what Banksy does.

A recent example of his work lately is a tree without leaves in London where behind is a stencil person painting the wall behind to make the illusion that the tree is alive and green. Lots of his work is left for interpretation and here I think from what it shows is climate change and deforestation and humanity not doing enough and instead painting over the issue.

1. From previous projects I have used or looked at graffiti of some kind and bringing in skills and techniques that I am familiar with.

2. I took a look at analysing dystopian worlds and saw lots of graffiti and know that this can play a part in my project.

This book has a wide range and collection of pieces of street art that I think are effective such as characters or stencils or even graffiti letters and words that are on the street.

This book relates to my target audience because out in public is where I want people to view my work in a theoretical sense and also graffiti appeals to young adults too.

I should hold onto this book for when I bring this skill back.

Again this is good research for me when I begin the process of making my own graffiti or tags for practice or even go out and capture more of these images for myself. I find graffiti a very passionate way of expression and illustration from making characters, messages, advertisement or simply art.

That is what this book shows for me and has helped me get a better idea of some of the more large scale and detailed street graffiti.

When looking in this book, many works popped out at me and I could see how that illustrator could be contacted for a job for a magazine, kids book or advertisement.

I used myself as the subject for this experiment because if I ever wanted to use a different individual down the line, I nee to know what I want out of a photograph and how to do it myself. The people I showed this to from friends and family said that I look mysterious or a main character from a story or film.

From the book Read this if you want to take great photographs of people, it talks about the technique of what is the focus of the photo and placement of the subject. Here I am in most of the frame and a clear focus of the photo and that being a long/telephoto which takes up most of the image and excludes most environmental details.

For the black and white look for this image I simply edited it's saturation and changed the contrast which in my opinion has made it look better.

This is a good process and way to get stencil done with an image that is my own and I can potentially look at how else I can get a stencil done.

I find stencil to be such a fun process and it helps that Banksy is an inspiration for just that. I will definitely continue using this and developing the skill further because there is more i can be doing for my stencil pieces. That being multi-layered stencil with much more detail and I will eventually work on that.

For cyberpunk ideas with technology, implants and other future themes, I went out to find objects for a photography picture that may relate to cyberpunk ideas and bought a VR headset for phones from a charity shop. I picked this out because some ideas of dystopias and cyberpunk show how far technology has come or taken over peoples lives and in recent times for example with the apple VR headset.

This idea of technology taking over and becoming more addicting is talked about in the Future Politics book I researched. This can also be a good idea of narrowing down what my final ideas for the theme can be but for now is just an experiment.

Now for the primary photos I took of myself, I wanted to show technology on me and using the headset as my new set of eyes and I think the pictures are very successful at capturing that. I made sure to test different poses to help potentially in the future for my photography.

I got the process of how I do this with taking an image I make, tracing over and removing the original image and filling in gaps with black to get this stencil look.

I took my previous stencil and digitally edited it on an app called Vaporgram on the playstore to get these colour variations of my stencil. One I did like was the far right with the glitch effect like my stencil is on a screen which fits the technology research more.

A reason I have all of this is because when presenting my vision for a dystopia later in the project, I might take inspiration from these and create my own posters or advertisement.

this can be seen from what I talked about before with Blade runner and how los Angeles has been changed drastically from what is seen today as a very patriotic state to a place where most cultures clash or mix with Japanese, Spanish and German.

Now with all of this being in context, I was in London for a day out and got to see many different cultures here which is not a bad thing and instead shows how far people have come from and how much has changed since the 1900's.

two of the pictures are from businesses in London and the other two are writing in an alleyway wall talking about political issues in China. overall, this can be something I try where I can begin using another language for grafitti or even try create signs and posters like these or the neon ones in the cyberpunk imagery.

The pictures I took here are the ones that stand out with some great detail, portraits and other work that show the best of street art in this very popular tourist tunnel.

There could be a possibility that if I can produce street art of my own then I can come here are do it legally and have it be a part of my project but will also be a new and amazing experience for wanting to be an artist.

Another reason behind wanting to go to this tunnel is to practice and do a physical piece of stencil and even practice graffiti as well and it is the perfect place for that since it is a public tunnel that allows anyone to make art in but following the rules which are on the official website.

If I do go ahead and do this then it can be a good idea that whatever I do can be taken and inspired for my actual final piece.

I used a previous stencil to start developing my ideas and outcomes and here is what I have done. I used the app Vaporgram again to get a filter and change the photo to a video and used some music just for the aesthetic of the experimentation( i do not own the music and do not plan on using others music for a final piece).

Both the effect and the music made this piece feel almost like it was out of the 1980s especially with the low quality (not intentional I downloaded it as a low quality video).

I also used Inshot to edit the video and music together.

Next, I came down to London and headed to the tunnel in Leake Street and talked to a local artist who gets tourists to spray paint and gave me a section to myself to spray paint. This was right by the entrance of the tunnel and I was told by him that "you have to choose a piece of the wall that doesn't look that great because why go over someone't art if yours is not better". So I got set up with and got to work by sticking down the stencil.

I also chose this stencil because it is what I am going for now and I want to have a strong look with technology and virtual reality.

I had to be careful when spray painting and taking the stencil off because paper was the cheapest and easiest process but is very easy to break or mess the stencil up. I took off the stencil and had more people come and look with some tourists saying "It is stencil work like Banksy". Finally the stencil was a success and ultimately felt great doing.

Also because I feel like the body cuts of and it's just a straight line at the bottom, I added dripping spray paint to make it feel more street art and rough.

Now I want to discuss how this is going to influence my work for the future and given me an idea for a final piece and potential. The idea for a final piece would be doing a large scale piece of work similar to this using stencil and more to create that sense and look of a dystopia through a world I create for the eyes of the audience. I can keep that visual look of having those VR goggles on to show a piece of technology and try and use more visual ideas rather than just writing my theme name on the piece.

Another unique advert is the real water and how clean real water is being advertised which may speculate to a future that has most water contaminated. This all gives me an insight and may lead to to think of adding my own advertising to the project that are similar to these and includes dystopian themes.

I got together this collage of many political images surrounding ideas of capitalism,racism, consumerism and freedom. These are all very real problems that actually effect the world today.

The glitch effect is me wanting to make it look like this is glitching out on a TV screen or computer and I did show this to some people in my class and even received peer review and feedback.

One classmate called Vicky said she liked the video but it would look cooler if the character was moving around with that filter over. I did think about this carefully and knew having an animation almost would be a good idea since I do want to have at least 1 final body of work that is digital to show my digital skill and it is not too late to try learn.

One image I took that stands out is the word Slove (which the google definition means to make less sharp) on the metal fence. I like this because each latter is on each bar and the words look like they are melting. Finally another good design is the bottom left and the chicken graffiti which can actually be found in a local fish and chips shop called Peckers found in Westmill Hitchin. The design is very appealing and makes the shop look more lively and like a street.

This is all relevant because I could make an advert or poster of some sort advertising something but keeping to the theme of dystopia and possibly cyberpunk.

This large scale photography is interesting and can be something I could keep in mind but can try to figure out how it is done. I don't even have to do large scale photography but instead just large scale work and pieces inspired from art like this.

Barbara repurposed found images to create more meaningful and impactful pieces of art. There is an emphasis on words and how a sentence can change an image or impact it and that can work with me this project when looking at very powerful themes like dystopia and wanting to spread a message or meaning to others through images and words.

So I thought of how to do a video with my stencil and knew a great idea would be to film a video of me and get a frame by frame image of it and trace over. I could have

When thinking about the frames I think about the spiderverse movie where they played around a lot with frame rate of characters.

The new body, new mind and new human advert on a wall shows cybernetic implants and replacing organic organs with technological ones or machine parts. It feels dystopian because the woman looks more robot than human and puts in question aspects of humanity and at what point is someone a human or robot which is a question put in place in the movies Blade Runner and The Creator which are both what I have researched.

I think an advert is a obvious way to get people's attention and shows what is being sold to someone. I think presenting someone with an advertisement that glorifies and seems very inhuman may make them question it. I can take this as inspiration and could even make one myself.

I am doing this all of the app Sketchbook on my chromebook.

This time I have inspiration for an outfit and a story behind what I want to do and show. I had the idea to have this character walk across the screen wearing the virtual reality headset as if they were his eyes and take a look at the world around him. I got an actual video of me creating this idea and got an app to get every frame of the video for animating the next step. (I am unable to find the exact app I had but it was very simple and just captured every frame of a video)

Also having me walk around in the virtual reality headset shows people the future where more people will be doing this. To back this up even more, I did previous research on the Meta quest headset and how people are now using them for day to day life.

I would say this could be a final body but I do want to try this again and make the video longer and even do more actions then just walking across the screen.

Also maybe for my next or final animation, I use a yellow background and put it in there rather than relying of effects to change it.

With technology playing a huge part in my project and the whole research phase,I tried finding hat i could use around my house and in the garden was my broken microwave and knew it could be a good opportunity to get a picture of or with. I also got some other props and began thinking of the story behind these pictures and this is what i came up with.

I am a cyberpunk citizen just living life day by day and pictures can capture my activities or actions from sitting down reading, holding objects or simply posing. With the outfit I got inspiration with the rolled up sleeves from the main character in the movie Akira. I am using looms from other characters or fiction for the outfit.

Certain shapes and shading in can make my arm look very robotic.

A good idea when wanting to have a cyberpunk theme within my work would be having or showing very robotic and technological change in my work or image as that will relate heavily to all my research.

Also this is good to do since implants like this show advancement in technology to is extreme since it gets to the point it is on the human body instead of being a separate device. In the game Cyberpunk 2077, it is very heavily advertised and most people have them on their body just for looks or to enhance some senses.

It does give the question of how far until someone becomes a robot.

So, since I have that idea in mind, I though about using images I took for a potential final piece and having buioldings I took pictures of be the background as long as no one could recognise them. Also, since I have been heavily been working on stencil, I started to change the pictures of these brutalist buildings to black and white images that almost look like stencils.

I do think some of these pictures I took look like I can do more with them which could be digital editing which I can save for later in the project.

It is a big message about capitalism and the greed of the rich because they have all the time in the world and the poor live day by day which pushes the real world problem. I see this dytopia as one being controlled by the rich and powerful and the main character wants to change that and is the embodiment of rebellion against a higher power.

I can keep note of these themes and political ideas for later in the project and see if much of what I research links or has the same messages.

I watched this film on Netflix and it is about the problem of overpopulation and a law being introduced being the 1 child 1 family rule which was actually a real concept or law that was introduced in China back in 1980 and ended in 2016.

This sort of mandate would not work very well and it is seen clearly in this movie. children who are born are taken away and "cryogenically frozen" but in actuality were instead killed. This movie shows a brutal world under tight control by the government and higher powers and not many people have the power to do anything or bring change. This goes back to the movie In time and other media having a focus on power and control which is now a key part to a dystopia that I am seeing.

I see this and it reminds me of the original Blade Runner movie with its looks and visions of a futuristic world. and it helps they came out at similar times. I see this being good research for me as I can take inspiration from this and use something to help my own version of a dystopia so I can try create the city, characters or even clothes.

There is a clear bright singular colour for the whole outfit which makes him stand out in all red and draws the attention to him. This helps as he is the main character in the story so this also helps and I can take that idea of colour. Another thing to consider is the outfit with a coat sleeve that has been rolled up and gloves. Maybe when taking some of these aspects I can make an outfit similar to resemble him.

His outfit or coat is rolled up to be short sleeved and is an optional style so I tried that with my own with and without the sleeves rolled down.

I also had a fake sword I used since I didn't have a fake gun prop to use but saw the images of Mitsuru with a rifle that looked very sci-fi. Showing a weapon presents danger or preparing for that danger. This subject can be good or bad but I wanted to fit the cyberpunk aesthetic with the character.

This is just a quick test changing the colours of my pictures.

The virtual world that I can explore is very detailed with a huge city scattered with neon lights, advertising, large structures and such a diverse city with culture and technology.

With how these relate to dystopian ideas is that cameras are the eyes of the law and other higher powers and how they are always watching us which has a sense that lacks freedom almost and always being under a watchful eye.

Something I have not researched but is a good example of this and makes sense of it all is a book called 1984 where surveillance is used for the wrong reasons.

Also I took these pictures of mine from a day out in London and edited them to be black and white on photoshop to give the look I found many of these images when looking up dystopian or political images.

just this sentence no democracy in China brings up a whole debate and topic over government which is what I think is so effective. Words, quotes and sentences that spark discussion. having this for art you make can be very good as it brings attention and different perspectives.

I of course changed it to match the look with my colour scheme and from some tests before with backgrounds, I used the same technique and removed the background and added a primary image of a newspaper which gives that collage look but would be interesting to use if the article was relating to my theme and it's many ideas.

Since I am planning to make a large city behind my stencil work, I want to try have the city look as cyberpunk, sci-fi, futuristic and appear like the fictional cities from Blade runner, Akira, Cyberpunk 2077 and the creator. One thing most of these to all have in common is the eastern culture with normally Japanese writing all over the cities which also relates to all the research on globalization.

So what I tried here was making inspirational looks for neon signs that might run down the buildings with some words that have to do with the theme. I even used my color scheme and made the words appear as neon bright.

Note: for signs in a city, they do not have to link to the theme but instead set the scene and build a world and story so I can write names to businesses, food, adverts and much more. this can help make my work more immersive.

A big focus of some of the problems and aspects of my research has been technology so I thought at taking a look at real life technology that reminded me of these fictional dystopias. I went to a place that sold technology being Curry's PC world in Stevenage and found the Meta Quest 3 which is a virtual reality headset that has gone viral on the internet because of how you can live your day to day life while wearing one which has struck debate on if this is a good idea.

Developing a headset that you can practically live in gives me a very dystopian idea as your living in a fake world rather than the real one with your real eyes. There is also a lot of sci-fi, cyberpunk and futuristic art and images online depicting the future and what can be seen a lot is Virtual reality goggles and headsets.

There is no way that I can get a hold of a headset so expensive for my project and just finance wise is not a good investment for me. I'm stating this because I can use a headset as primary research and work or even impliment it into my project with photography or drawing.

I think a good reason why this is in my project and recommended to me is because of how the buildings look very dystopian with how intimidating, large and powerful they all are. Also, in a lot of dystopian media, the world is [resented as bleak and dark and structures like this fit that description and look very well.

Thought this was worth including as it is street art and something I am going for with my target audience.

feedback: I was told from my tutor that these are good pieces but the words being under or hidden don't look as well and they appear much more visible in the empty areas.

the idea I gave myself before these pictures was that I am a citizen a part of a dystopian city that has been influenced by technological advances. I wanted to use the barbican center as a location to help build this vision of a concrete jungle and being surrounded by huge buildings.

Also I did dress up in the outfit I have been using and want to use it for when I start making more stencils so I made sure to strike poses I also could stencil easily.

I have been here before and know about it already with how it can help my project with how different this shop is compared to most selling cyberpunk and other punk clothing and more.

I chose this because I saw it in many of the media, pictures and fiction I was researching which includes heavy inspiration from the marketing of cyberpunk 2077 and how they used yellow to capture an audience more. I see it as that eye catching colour as you mainly see it for important signs such as danger or warnings.

Also with the cyberpunk look, I wanted to have and bring in bright colour.

Something to note is just how many brutalist architecture buildings online are in pictures of black and white. which reminds me of photographers and artists that i have looked at.

I took secondary images of cyberpunk cities online and looked at all the neon bright lights and signs with another language on and tried creating that myself with using Chinese and Japanese and also creating some more imagery with the eyes.

I have already spoke about it but I want to best illustrate an individual (me as example) being surrounded by a dystopian world but most importantly being guided by the vision of technology and fake eyes than real ones which bring up the topic of virtual reality and debates of how far technology should go.

Also with all that in mind, I have looked at cyberpunk worlds and how the cities are presented with screens, neon signs and holograms everywhere. So I thought why not make an animation of myself inside a screen in the virtual world which relates to the VR headset and have myself walk across the screen almost observing the world around me.

With the idea of looking around with the VR being my set of eyes, I should have a brief moment where I look towards the camera and the audience and even take off the goggles but put them back on and walk off.

I was able to make the video creating that with the outfit I have been using and the headset too and captured every frame to begin the long animation process.

Finally, i do have a story behind this video and the actions i make for when I start animating. I walk past the screen observing my surroundings with the VR headset on and then notice the audience to break the 4th wall almost and i want to discuss the digital world, the real world, over-reliance on technology and what we see with technology. i did leave some interpretation in the video with how i put the headset back on and just walk off.

Some details maybe useful for future research.

All these images gives the question and debate of should we be doing this to our bodies or let this happen in the future because it would no doubt be ugrading the human body but could come at a cost and in some pieces of fiction show that like cyberpunk 2077 and the mental effects of having too much cyberware in your body.

I also juts think it is a good pose to choose from and I can still see myself wearing the VR headset and I am wearing the outfit inspired by the character from Akira.

Also I began the process of making a multi-layered stencil with this.

I also chose to keep the stencils 1 layer instead of two just to keep to schedule and have this animation not take me many weeks to complete.

this is just a close up of one of about 20 frames.

I asked my classmate Bella to take a picture of the side profile of her face and use her as reference or directly use the picture to edit or create something similar to what I have looked at this project.

I also used a unfinished stencil for this juts to get a rough idea and one of the previous stencils since I could use more than one stencil.

My only issue here is that the black blends into the background so I can consider using other colours for either the stencil or the city outline.

Not only that, but having this on a poster in this city for my final piece can glorify the idea of technology on the body since it is advertised to everyone.

With work from before making digital outcomes for an outline of a city, I have a look roughly for how I want it to look on the board. i do not plan on printing out the city to cut out and I was instead thinking of using tape to outline the shapes on the board to paint or spray paint in.

the colour shapes are representing the neon lights from cyberpunk cities with lights, billboards or large posters on the side of buildings. I can use stencil cutouts of shapes to get an accurate shape I can even use again and again on the board.

Next, I want to put the large stencil of myself in the middle or to one side of the board to represent my character and a citizen of this dystopian city. I plan on making this stencil very large and the plan isn't to have the city or stencil to be an accurate scale and even have the piece feel a little bit abstract.

Wit the lady on the other side, I want to have her be a hologram or on one of the billboards in the city. I want her to represent he increased market and glorification of body modifications to humans and to advertise that.

Finally with the background, I might add clouds or show harsh weather to intensify the feeling of a dystopian city.

a reason he of all people talked to me about my work is the inclusion of stencil work in my project which is one of his specialisms as he does large scale stencil work for a living.

I showed him my ideas, theme and what I have currently been working on and my plan before I start my final piece so he could catch up to speed and tell me where to go from there. With my plans for the stencil work and getting them printed out, he showed me two other ways of getting large stencils done with one being the use of projectors on a surface and tracing from there or using a pouncing wheel which can be used for very large stencils and art to map out and dot all he lines and shapes.

I found that very helpful as it opens up the gates to more creative ways of getting my work done. I will consider the techniques he tought with me briefly but I might stick to staying safe a little bit with just how little time I have left with my project but for the future, this knowledge can help me a lot.

He also stated that with the city background idea that it should be stencil work fr that to get an accurate look for the city which I will keep note.

Overall, he actually showed me many techniques an ways of doing my work which i never knew or did not consider so he definitely helped me with the visit and made me feel much more confident with doing this large final piece.

From this I have learnt a lot and will try and include some of the techniques he taught me.

I tried the same process with making this city outline with using square shapes and it can be used for the city lights, signs an =d more to really build this vision of a lively city.

I took many references from pictures online and prior research of cyberpunk and futuristic cities and found that many of them were square shapes and used this as an outline for a city.

I started this digital process of the app sketchbook.

This was juts a quick test and I know easier ways of importing music and editing videos.

I did want to make as big of a final piece that I could and really push myself beyond my limits compared to last year to prove myself to well myself. I want to go out with a bang and try go all out with my work even if it isn't perfect.

Getting these boards was a pain to begin with but getting them to college also took a lot of effort but I managed and here they both are. I did not get an image of them from before so this is just before paint them which is later into the project so I am just leaving a note.

also, the boards had holes in then so I had to buy this hole filler for wood and then sand it down once it was dry.

finally, I began painting the boards yellow as you can see fro this image and even bought my own roller to make the process quicker.

The plan next is to paint with black.

I have left some of the tape still on and want to wait until it is all completely dry and then try and find a way to get all of the tape off.

this really sows the 20 plus hours of work and dedication t get this done and I am so happy with what i have made. there was about 70 or 80 frames and even though it's short still only being roughly 10 seconds, the animation is smooth and very accurate to my movement.

Not every frame was perfect and i did make mistakes at time such as not filing in a gap or two but you can barely notice it in the video.

Now that the animation is done, is there anything else I can do to it? yes. I made music not to long ago to accompany the final animation and i plan on choosing one and making a loop video playing the music although it isn't mandatory but helps visualise and even hear the music of a dystopian world.

It makes my animation and screen look more digital with the glitches making it seem like there is something wrong with the screen it is being shown on.

My solution after some time of thinking and a discussion with my teacher is t add another layer for the city background and have it slowly fade out or get brighter. I do want to instead hide all the marks and glue and will use a less strong tape next time.

I used an app called groovepad with preset music and being able to create your own beat. With this I found presets and music that related best to my theme and I found out with also linking the sounds that electronic music comes very close to the same sounds and feels to the music I have already used.

I tried making many outcomes to use for another animation and used my street art as the cover for all this music as if it is an album.

I sure to use the right tape this time and have learnt my lesson. I also used a smaller brush and made nothing got on the yellow paint.

the plan now is that each layer getting lighter will have smaller and less strong neon colours as it will work better if the colours fade out.

With what is done, the plan next is to stat the process of adding shapes and colours to present the light of the neon city i am creating. once I am happy with that then next is adding the stencils.

no there is a problem but one i just have to let happen and that is because all the spray painting has to be done outside, the wind can effect where the spray paint goes and have some spray paint and marks left but I plan on adding a lot more so it may look better, if not ill paint in black and fill in.

The final piece shows and asks if the virtual world is real with the digital man approaching the audience and acknowledging them for a brief moment before putting the Virtual reality headset back on and walking off. This was intentional and I did make it so the video breaks the fourth wall.

The music is to immerse the audience into my cyberpunk world with a screen like this being displayed and normally playing this type of electric music with usually showing adverts, holograms and much more, but here instead of showing a man seeing through the eyes of a device and being over-reliant of technology in this world where cyber-ware and implants have been commercialised.

now the final piece here was going to be longer bit the size of the file was too large and I tried uploading it to youtube but the quality was very poor so when it comes to the exhibition, i'll send over the longer version which is just a loop with more of the music.

finally this piece will not be used to sell or make money from as the sounds are still owned and are simply repurposed by me to make a beat. All credit for that goes to Groovepad-music and beat maker on the playstore.

Ill start with Final piece 1:

Final piece 1 is an animation that will display multiple ideas and messages. It is a video of a man wearing virtual a reality headset seeing through the eyes of the machine and observing the virtual world around him and spots the audience in the world world before putting the headset back on and walking away. This animation is supposed to be on a billboard in a city where my target audience spots it, observes and questions if the virtual man saw them or not.

It also shows the over-reliance on technology ad letting it be a part of us because of commercialising and technological changes and enhancements in society.

The world around him in the video will be yellow to match the colour scheme and represent what colour my world I have created is since the sky on my boards are yellow to show a different sky and almost full of dust and fog and to enhance that dystopian look.

this goes with my target audience because I am aiming to have this theoretical billboard on the street where those who are the targets of advertising being adults are shown but instead showing my messages and video instead.

With the video relating to my specialist area of illustration, I am presenting and showing a scene and story of a man exploring the digital world, discovering the real one and walking away for a reason i would rather leave up for interpretation

Final piece 2:

the plan here is to show on 2 boards to act as a wall as 1 together and is supposed to be out on the street for people to see. My idea here is to show an illustrate my world that i have imagined and started working on. the world is a dark depiction of the future in the cyberpunk genre with a towering city with many bright neon lights, advertising everywhere, foreign languages and more.

I want to show the same individual from the animation as a large stencil towering over the world around him while also being a art of it with his eyes being replaced by a virtual reality headset acting as eyes. i want to simply present this world and get people to discuss on the street why they are being shown it, is this the future? and much more. I like interpretation and leaving some things up to the audiences eyes and mind. however, at the end of this project i simply want this board to show my version of a dystopian world.

It all relates to my target audience because street art ad stencil work appeals to younger adults and my work will be out on the street on a wall for people to look at as they go past.

Finally with Illustration, this all comes together because i am illustrating my story here and my world and my version of what our future dystopia may look like.

You can also see the very small squares that are little windows and lights that I made because of Blade Runner, the city in the movie and the response I made.

Also for a small detail. I am having her face the direction of where my large stencil will go.

I got the boards clamped together and began the stencil which you can see here.

i did make sure this stencil is in the middle as it is the main focus and centre piece for my final piece.

I can now begin the next layer of the stencil which has a lot more detail and is expected to be difficult.

The whole piece is near enough finished and anything else i do to the board will be finishing touches with some more lights ans shapes to fill in some of the empty spaces.

the three stencil adverts are to show the body modifications that are happening and changing everyone even if it is positive or negative. two of them are showing the virtual headsets to replace your eyes and one displaying a women with cyber-ware on her face that is supposed to encourage consumers to get what she has.

The city sky being yellow to show the change from what we see now, the sky could be like that from the heavy light pollution seen in the city.

Finally the large stencil is to show a man who is a part of this world, city and society and has been influenced by what is around him and can see the world only through the eyes of technology. He could be excepting that fact or may want to change and escape the colourful dystopia.

i made this man the focus on this final piece, he almost towers over the city around him and could be the representation for living in the dystopia or change.

Update: There is a space at the back of the 3D room where these shutters can be opened and closed so my boards have been placed there and I can resume my work.

i believe this is for the best and will continue.
