My administrator asked me how I could apply my class-made rubric to have students self-evaluate. She identified a change that I could make that would benefit my students. It made me rethink the way I set that system up and now we have "check ins" that students attach to their work. They have to justify WHY they gave themselves a certain score. When we are teaching our students, we need to model this for our students. For example, I often need to draw a model and I will say "I am learning to improve my art skills," or "I am not the best artist yet." This models for my students that I have areas I am trying to improve on.
