Ask probing questions to encourage further discussion from students. Effective probing questions have a knack for getting students to talk about their personal opinions or their feelings on the particular topic, promoting critical thinking. Using questions that include the word exactly can sometimes assist for example "Thanks for your comment Sarah, what do you mean by your point that .......... exactly?"

One thing I did a little last time this unit ran was try and find funny videos that related the either the content or the responses from students. I thought this might encourage them to come back to see something a little different each time. I also had a 'marketing quote of the week' in my forums and I had some really positive feedback in relation to these. Students said that they felt motivated to get stuck into marketing after seeing how much influence it can have. I now use these in the announcements for the same reason :)

Hey team, just dropping back in on Friday of week 7 to share what HAS worked.
I emailed all my HD recipients from A2 on Monday of Week 7 to congratulate them. I sent individual emails, adding in something specific to each student, encouraging them to keep posting (as it motivates others), start posting (because they clerqly have so much to offer the group) or resume posting (eg because we're all missing your jokes/humour/input). I got quite a good strike rate from that. Not 100%, but I'd guess 60%?
And I've gone overboard this week with the #whoopwhoops and #Awesomes and GIFs of happy dances for some great content, in the hope of spurring them on some more....

(There's always a silver lining!) I did receive many lovely emails in reply, wishing me a HNY back, and thanking me for the nice video :-) #GottaLoveTheEngagedStudents!!
