  Basically this amendment along with the fourth protects citizens rights and makes sure that they aren't held accountable for crimes they didn't commit or that a jury found them innocent of. It also protects people from other citizens trying to take their own action against others. Furthermore it gives people the right of due process which allows people to be tried for crimes in a legal and fair way. This is a right given to everyone. 
 The statement made by Donald Trump Jr. that says,"If I had a bowl full of skittles and I told you just three would kill you would you take a handful" is extremely bigoted. Right now there are already protests against allowing refugees into the country and many desire to sue because of the events that transpired during 9/11. Though it's understandable people went through one of the worst tragedies to ever happen to the United States and they want to continue to feel safe and they want to protect others from the pain they endured it's also not okay to blame these refugees for what happened because they were not involved in anyway. The amendment protects them from being held to answer for those crimes unless the public is in danger and typically i would agree and say we need to keep the nation safe however the chances of someone dying from a terrorist attack in the United States in 0.001% and they are 200,000 times more likely to die from being struck by lightning. It is understandable to want to be safe but that's also all the refugees desire look at the photos and lives that they're living it's not easy they've been through a lot and they more than any of us have felt with terrorism because that's what they're fleeing from so in my opinion i think we as americans need to be more understanding. Also the vetting process is extremely safe and takes years if possible my only stigma would be maybe make it more thorough so that more people would feel safe but still. Also people aren't skittles and in their home land most of them are dying from things that would scare most americans so it's important to know that when they're coming to this country they're doing so for the same reasons as we did for freedom and peace.
